I'm not comfortable with naming names (either good or bad) but I would strongly advise that your friend makes contact with the one of the breed clubs:
http://www.thenewfoundlandclub.co.uk/http://www.northernnewfoundlandclub.org.ukWhen looking at pups, ensure that the parents have had ALL the relevant health tests with acceptable results:
Hip scores - current breed meen score is 26 and, obvioulsy, the lower the better
Elbow scores - some breeders are neglecting this one but it's just as important as hips, IMO. Score should be 0
Heart - should be echo doppler tested with a clear result.
Cystinuria - DNA tested 'clear'
Accept nothing less. There are very successful dogs out there being bred from that have not had all these tests, or have had unsatisfactory results in one or more and the breeders are perpetuating joint and heart problems in the breed. These breeders may well be among those that some would point you towards as being 'good' ones you sometimes need to dig a bit to get the whole picture so your friend should be prepared to do her own vetting of a breeder.
