But I'm positive that a CD member recently gave some information on a specialist vet in north somerset - so not far from Bristol.

Look up Fit and Fertile.  They're in Preston (I believe) near Liverpool.  They have been really helpful with my enquiries when I was considering importing semen.  There's another one called CLONE (not meaning Cloning) which have also been extremely helpful if you search for that as well. 

Edited to add - the CLONE one might be closer for you - I think they are based near 3 counties.
