I've had my 2 on Wagg Worker for the past 2/3 weeks, (cheapest of the cheap, I know!) and while they look ok, and output is fine, I have noticed that they seem to smell, well, more doggier!
When I come downstairs in the morning it really whiffs.
Do you really think this could be connected to the food.
Any suggestions for something else to feed.
Thanks
C.

Can't comment on the doggy odour, but I feed CSJ Champ to my Rotties. The move away from AG large breed was purely for financial reasons, but they do well on it, and the output is less than on AG - it's less than £10 for a 15kg sack.
I moved my old one to tinned along with the complete, ans she whiffs. I'm looking at changing back, never smelt anything like it. We bathed her the other day and the smell is back.
I first noticed it when i gave her butchers tripe selection, thought it might be that but no its every one lol.
I have read before, it was to with raw feeding, that dog food can make them more smelly and a raw diet eliminates it.
Have been thinking about putting her back on rice/veg and meat.

I have found different foods to cause a pong. Not necessarily the cheapest

have mine back on CSJ that'll Do! - haven't found a better one for them and they don't pong on it
It's not what you say, it's what you DO that counts...

I haven't thought about that one before. My dog has always had a mild smell and I don't think my house smells doggy. However recently I noticed that she smells more and she does seem to spend more time licking her legs - I can hear her behind me now in fact - I wonder if it is becoming something of a habit. It definitely makes her more smelly. The only thing that has changed is that I now keep up with her monthly flea treatment - haven't bothered before but now we have moved we have more cats around and foxes and the need for flea preventative treatment is more urgent.

Nothing sensible to add buut when I read the title of the thread I assumed you were asking if different food effected a dogs sense of smell Lol.

I noticed this with my eldest (he's 3) when he went on RC. His breath was disgusting, to the point I was inspecting his teeth daily for a rotting one I couldn't see, although his teeth remained pearly white (before this he had no dog breath at all). I found he smelt doggier too. I had him on Doggie Detox from Dorwest, and it helped, but switching food and keeping on the doggie detox has solved the problem completely.

Tried one of the dogs on a food called 'ranger' some years ago and she STUNK you could smell where she was in the house, it was her whole body/coat not particularly her breath or any one bit..........she only ate it for about a week........birds didn't like it either so the bin ate the rest of the (smallish) bag.

hi, what is csj it not one I have heard of, thanks
http://www.csjk9.com/Hi bertsmum, it's this company. Ceri is happy to discuss your dog's needs and help you decide on a suitable food - they do a good variety. They will also send out samples for your dogs to try

the food is very low priced as they don't advertise (satisfied customers do that for them

) and the bags are very simply printed - no fantastic photos etc

They don't sell to shops, only through 'dog' people and at shows.
Hope this helps

Thankfully (for me, in the past) some shops do stock CSJ! A local pet shop always had CSJ Lamb & Rice in stock, which they also sold by the kg., and could order in large bags of any other variety.
Now I have moved, there are no local stockists although fortunately a nearby pet shop has Autarky which is a reasonable compromise.
A list of stockists is on their site somewhere.
Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative.

Never had much smell from my three on JWB, but I recently housesat a springer who was on RC, which is a quality food, but he stunk very strongly doggy. I was told the breed can smell quite doggy though.
Mine are on RC and they smell delightful! No bad smells from them at all.
I must say that although on the expensive side, their eyes are bright, their coats shine and their poos are okay. I can actually see the good the food (for Golden Retrievers) does for them

I haven't really ever thought about this, but then my dogs have never really been very smelly, I certainly don't think my house is very doggy. They have
http://www.swellpets.co.uk/dog/dog-food-698/arden-grange-dog-food-929.htmlArden Grange, but haven't always been on that, just the past couple of years and I don't think they smelled before.
However, my inlaws have 2 labs and they really do smell, I am not sure what food they are on, but think it might be just a cheap supermarket one.... I did get them to try AG and I think they liked it but I think it was just a bit on the pricey side even though I don't think it is too expensive where I get it - can't say I recall them saying that they smelt any less though?
Personally, I have always thought that it was the breed, and that some breeds smell more than others. So in their case I just thought that it is simply labs that smell.
Has anyone out there got labs that don't smell and in which case what do you feed them?

I have 5 Labs and they don't smell at all. 3 are on Arden Grange Lamb and Rice and 2 are on Royal Canin Labrador 30. They dont even smell when they are wet!

I have 2 on skinners F/T and 1 on RC and all GRs.
The two on skinners both have garlic breath no other smells....but the one on RC is smell free.
One Golden is never enough.
My Bullmastiff has had loads of different foods as she is a fussy eater. The only thing she'll eat is a Bolero "Chub" in beef or chicken. This is the cheapest we've had!!! She has always had a "doggy" smell about her, and I'm always putting her in the bath (not easy)! and shampooing my carpets. Is the Mastiff a "smelly" breed? I've never had a dog that smells so much!!!!!
