Could you try contacting a few 'Rescue Sanctuaries', explain the problem, and ask if they would be willing to arrange for 'their Vet' to treat your puppy, and you would pay off the necessary bill by way of working in their Kennels - mucking out, cleaning, etc., whatever they need.
Then I would strongly recommend obtaining insurance, (we all hope that we will not need to make claims - but at least it gives us peace of mind for any eventuality)!
All the best to you both,
Denise.
Hi Denise
I don't think veterinary insurance is widely available in the US

Hello Christine,
That does surprise me. I always thought we tended to follow in the footsteps of the U.S. They have private medical care for people, which is now becoming more the norm over here.
I wonder if ordinary insurance policies, that cover house contents etc., might have an area for pet insurance, (again, I understand that some British policies sometimes offer this. Might be worth checking).
With regards,
Denise.
ok today he has gone all day without vomiting "knock on wood" he also ate regular puppy food on his own and gulped down water. i didnt mean for him to eat the dog food yet but we were feeding my sister in laws dog and he just started eating and i wasnt going to stop him hehe he has managed to keep down everything today so far!!
and he is so skinny i can feel his bones

what should i do about this now........asuming he is getting better. oh yes! and the resuce place helped me find a vet for him that will accept care credit and i made an apointment for him on monday.

I thought the only family memeber you had was your mother?

Could your sister in law not help with vet bills? She is obviously a dog lover.
my sister in law is a young single mother of 2 children she is staying with me because she is having problems with her husband (my brother)
she has been helping me care for him but she does not have that kind of money and i would not ask that of her. she needs to be able to care for her children.
i can pay the bill i just dont have the money all at once at the moment
Hi snowangel, I have been following this thread but haven't had anything helpful to add til now. I am so glad that your pup is now having good treatment and appears to be getting better. What are you going to feed him now he seems to be keeping the food down? has your vet suggested a diet? Its important now that he doesn't have a relapse by being fed unsuitable food. Can I suggest that if you are'nt already that you give him cooked de boned chicken and plain boiled rice, in small amounts 3 times a day. Dont try and stuff food into him, although it must be tempting if he is underweight, you will have to build him up very slowly to keep his tummy "sweet". I would divide the de boned meat from 2 chicken breasts or 3 drumsticks and a mugful of dry rice(which obviously expands when cooked) , into 3 meals a day and would still give him a spoonful plain natural live yogurt in the bowl first before adding the food. I would also add a good quality vit/mineral supplement, I dont know which are the best US ones. I wouldn't give him any extra oils or fats yet as these are hard to digest. When your vet thinks he is ready for his second shot, do let him give it rather than a lay person. I do hope he continues to improve for you.
the rice and ground beef is what the vet recommended but he doesnt seem to like it, he will not eat it. if i pick out the ground beef he will eat that but will not touch the rice *shrugs* but i will try the yogurt if i can find out where they sell it (i supose a health food store?) and i will ask the vet about the vitamins.

Hi snowangel, been following with interest as my pup has been a bit poorly lately ( Bonnie ). When I took her to the vets yesterday he gave me some prescription dog food. Everything I had given her up till then (including chicken, rice, egg) had come straight back out the bottom end ( really really sloppy too). This food has been great though, she enjoys it and she has firmed up great in less than 24 hours. Maybe your vet will have something like this that your pup can try. Jadie xxx
day 2 and still feeling well!! he is eating and drinking and has been more active and lively today. i slept on the sofa last night so i could keep an ear out for him in the kitchen and make sure he did not get sick again anyway he woke me up this moring by jumping up on the sofa and licking my face (ick) hehe! i had to look at him for a moment to make sure it was realy him and he was standing there with his front feet up on the chair looking at me wagging his tail. i am so happy!!
Great news, you are obviously doing a good job, I so pleased for you he is better.
That's great, whatever your doing, keep doing it, it's obviously working !! :D

ok hes all better and i found out what caused his sickness the vet said it was the coronavirus and it has the same symptoms as parvo but its much milder but they can still die if not taken care of properly. the vet said i did a pretty nice job of keeping him alive yay! and he also said since he has had that virus he should be imune to it now and most likely wont ever get it again
SnowAngel,
If you don't mind, what town are you near? I might be able to locate the "low cost" vet for the area for you. There are quite a few programs in US communities to help with monies, but they usually have to be planned for before anything happens. They tend to keep quiet just due to problems with individuals exploiting the system.
As for insurance, I know it's been growning in popularity in the US. But it depends on your region as to its availability. Your puppy will have more costs for its health and welfare ... its purchase price is only a miniscule amount compared to lifetime care  If you can get insurance for it. That's absolutely wonderful.
If you can't....I think it was Sam that said to put a couple of dollars away a month. She's right. $15 monthly should be the bare minimum, though. One good illness/accident/ series of shots can make 3 months of that vanish in an instant.
No, dog ownership is not a disaster, but it can add up, usually Murphy's Law :D So if you plan for it, for some wierd reason it's less likely to happen. Go figure.
good luck and enjoy your puppy.
toodles
i live in Fenton, Missouri but you dont need to do that everything is fine now. the only reason i could not take the pup to the vet sooner is because i had alot happen in that one week that has never happened before and i didnt plan for it. 1. someone slashed all four of the tires on our car so bad that we had to get a new set all around that was almost $300 (2. the refrigarator stoped working and we lost alot of food we had just bought that costed $60 to fix (3. the heating element went out on the dryer and we still have not fixed it but its going to cost $40 (4.all of our children (my sister in laws and mine) picked up lice from school we had to got get the shampoo for that (very expensive!) and then to top it off the pup became ill and this happened all at once i thought it was never going to end!
but the thing that put us in the hole was the set of tires if it was not for that happening we would have had plenty of money saved to take the pup to the vet. also what the vet did i could have done at home for free cause all he did was give him a fluid injection and tell me to keep doing what i was doing :/ and for that he charged me $145 *rolls her eyes*
It never rains but it poors

I hope things settle down for you soon, and I'm so pleased that pup is getting better
