My dog Laddie was playing with the paperboy and his friends on the front lawn, they started winding him up by making him bark, as he does this on command.Then they started fighting, then ran off up the street, Laddie followed and grabbed the heel of one of the boys, who was on roller blades.We think he did this, as one of his things is chasing the vaccuum, and we think the noise of the blades was like that of the hoover.
The area on the boys leg, where he grabbed, was slightly grazed, but there was no blood.
We reported the matter to the police, after Julie received threats from the mother of the boy, and we cancelled the papers, as we didnt want to run the risk of this happening again.
We are now under investigation by animal welfare, As the mother of the child, seems to want to make a mountain, out of a mole hill. and she has alleged that the dog was not under control, (shurely it was her child that wasnt under control)
Laddie is 13 years old and has no history of this kind of behavior.
we are completely stressed about the whole thing, can any one reasure us that nothing will come of this.

I agree with you the kids shouldnt be winding up the dog! Its obviously not a bad dog or it would have done it years ago. Mind you as a collie owner I might be a bit biased!

Thanks for your kind words Elaine, As collie owners we understand there ways, We have now got a solicitor to act for us. He said Laddie was only doing his job, of rounding up and keeping the kids in line, thats because of his nature. Perhaps some parents should take a leaf from his book.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Ann it would be a running odds on favourite that any other dog would be put down.

Why did you contact the police? Did the other mother threaten to and you wanted to get your side heard first?

Well Quinn we reported the incident to the police, because the mother thretened my girlfriend, in the street, both verbally and physically, she also made threats against Laddie, thats why we reported it to the police.
It also seemed the responsible thing to do.

I had a similar incident where my 20 week old pup was attacked by a GSD I kicked the dog once to stop the attack. I was then threatened and told my dog would get its throat cut, so I called the police to the scene. I was charged with breach of the peace for kicking the dog.

PS odd dog is a wind up they use a load of different names to give themselves support not worth being civil to.

Thanks For that information Mr Murphy, I will not be answering odd dog from now on. Odd dog it would seem, has nothing better to do, than cause unnessassary anguish, to people that are really conserned about there dogs.

I hope that everything sorts itself out. I am a serving police officer and if I had to deal with this incident I would have a word with you about keeping the dog under control round children and that would be the end of that. I would be more interested in warning the woman for threatening behaviour and if it continued Harassment. At the end of the day it was an accident, yours is not a nasty dog and there are no real grounds for any type of prosecution as far as I can see.

The police must feel like playground supervisors sometimes. Small disagreements escalate when they don't need to. If people would just act their age, not their shoe size, you wouldn't need the cops to sort out arguements.
