Hi All

My dogs have trouble with their anal glands.  My vet told me to add more fibre to their diet to firm up their stools.  I went to the health shop and looked at the nutritional values of the different types of bran.  Toasted soya bran had more fibre in it than wheat bran.  Does anyone know what is the best type of bran to give to dogs?  Is toasted soya bran good for dogs?  Thanks.

Soya is not a good food, it is a thyroid inhibitor and it also makes dog trump like elephants.

I think feeding raw food with bones helps with anal glands. It firms up the poos and gives the anal glands a good work out every day.

You'd think that wouldn't you Esme, but it seems after doing so well on raw for my boy his anal glands yet again have gone haywire :-( I'm having to go back yet again to have them cleaned out, he has a lot of bone and this is causing him more problems than when he was on just a complete diet :-( Gah!!!

So back to the drawing board again with complete only now for him... Oh well...

Oh no, what a pain! Poor you, and what a shame for your boy. Is he entire? Sometimes the prostate can become enlarged in entire males causing them to have pooing problems. Just a thought.

i have a small dog that did have probs with her glands and my vet told me a teaspoon of porridge in her dinner so we did this twice a day and for the last 3 months (everything crossed as i write this) she has had no problem so far so this worked for me and i will be keeping this up with her.
