Hello everyone, sorry its been such a long time. My connection is down at home & I am using the one in my husbands office. Reddy died at 7 25pm. 11/7/01 from Parvo disease. My pups were due to have thier booster on tje 3/7/01 but a couple had shown signs of soft & funny coloured stools, also I was worried because of Reddy`s Panicculitis. By Thursday night 1 male was not rihgt. Friday morning he was porly & to the vet, who started treating him straight away. Fri night my other male is down & at the vet. By Monday morn I have 2 males & 1 girl down with by what is now clearly Parvo. Isolated in my spare bedroom with the vet coming all hoiurs of the day & night Inursed my pups.Reddy had only eaten his breakfast on Mon & Tues. morning & by tues night I knew what was going on. He came into the bedroom with the other 3 & went on a drip as soon as the vet arrived. He didn`t stand a chance. His immune system was already compromised & we did everything we could.
Merial is the name of the drug comp that made the vacc. that my vet used for the pups at 8wks old, brand name Tetradog.it caused the panniculitis in Reddy which my vet has confirmed & also that it did not protect my pups from 1 of the viruses that it was supposed to have done. It has been confirmed that the pups were incubating parvo before they wre due the booster at 12 wks. You know what would have happened if I had have them boosted while they were incubating parvo.
11 days ago my girls sides looked a bit swollen & I thought, keep on eye on that.
By 8.30pm she needed an op for dilatation ,very serious .
What can I say? My pups are all recvering & getting better. Except Reddy. If he had not had panniculitis I would have had them all boosted & they would have all died. He saved his family.
Merial have been down to see my vets & me & are "studying the facts"
I have loads more to say on this but I need the time which I don`t have at the moment.
PLEASE HAVE YOUR ANIMALS TITRES DONE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE THEM & ASKTHE EXPERTS ADVICE BEFORE HAND. GLASGOW UNIVERSITY CAN HELP. YOUR VET IS NOT NOT AN EXPERT. HE IS NOT GOD.
Thanks for allyour help & I`m sorry Ican`t stay in regular contact but as soon as I can sort out my server I will. Please send me your opinions & I will log on at my hubbies office. Christine
Hi Christine
I am so very sorry to hear about the troubles you have been through and about Reddy's death. It must be absolutely horrible to lose a pup, the only consolation being that the other pups are now recovering.
Please do keep in touch and let us know what the company say, and how the other pups are doing.
Best wishes
Lindsay

Hi Christine what can I say? Just that I am so sorry that you lost Reddy and that you have had such a terrible time with his litter mates. Please do keep us informed about the rest of the pups and what the drug company has to say about all this. It does give us all something serious to consider when we are trying to protect our precious puppies, when they are so vulnerable.Hope things continue to improve now.Take care Gillian

I'm so sorry Christine. Parvo is a terrible disease. thank goodness some of the puppies were able to be saved. I'm thinking about you.

Hi everyone thank you very much for your concern, I am using my friends computer at the moment as mine is still down. One other thing I omitted to tell you was that one of the males that recovered fairly quickly was vaccinated on the 3/8/01 and went down 13 hrs. later with severe diarrhoea and even worse vomiting. The vet said it was a reaction to the vaccine. It cleared up after 3/4 days after more medication.
Merial when we had the meeting offered to send me serum to protect the three puppies temporarily against any other major diseases, I refused and asked them to send me the information first. They insisted they would send the information and the serum, and if I didn't it was up to me. The serum arrived at the vet's clinic C.O.D., my vet refused and then rang me, I told him to send it back as I had no intention of paying for it, my vet told them it was an insult to his client, I have since told him I want nothing more to do with Merial and have sent them to hell!!!!.
Thanks for every thing, I will keep in touch when my dear friends allow me to use their computer, and I will still read your comments.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW OF ANY REACTIONS TO VACCINES YOU HAVE HAD.
Bye for now, Christine.
