I have a Fox red dog although colour wise he is registered as yellow.  The K.C are considering making RED a listed colour as there is an obvious genetic difference. My dog is the colour of a Hungarian V and is purely working strain, he has had black, pale yellow all the way through to dark yellow/or red puppies.  I think your right I think its a very old colour that is coming back into fashion but mainly throgh the working lines (did'nt see one at crufts this year!)   Its all the white, silver and charcol labs I don't trust. Look much like a weirmarana?

so did I, Kayza. I think we were on the same lines

Well, needless to say I've got completely lost along the way but hey ho!

The father of my lab is a "fox red" labrador, on his pedigree it will state yellow as they come in black/yellow/chocolate.  Dad is the darkest foxiest collar you could imagine (dh was v. disappointed to get only the one pup, it was male & black ;-))

Working Gundog people often refer to them as fox red labs.

Just for interest, there is an old tale that long ago they tried to breed chestnut into the black labs.  Not sure how true it is but 2 of our black labs have very reddish brown ears & a whole lot of reddy brown running through their coat (sure some of it is due to sun, but the ears???)

For the original poster, suggest the working lines as I'm not sure how many you get in the show lines (hope I haven't offended anyone by splitting the two types, no offence meant to either party ;-))

I doubt it, somehow. The working fraternity generally don't care two hoots about breeding for colour, and as traditionally the livers weren't desired I find it hard to believe they'd try to introduce chestnut.

With your two, what colours are in their ancestry?

I doubt it too but it's a nice story :-D  My labs come from predominantly black with a few yellows.  As I said one lab's dad is yellow but is the colour of a fox (hence my posting on the fox red labs).

Well I'd have to disagree a little on that as the people I know aren't huge fans on breeding chocolate, but maybe that's just the one's I've met ;-)

That's my point. ;-) The working people don't like the liver/chocolate - there's never been one that's become a FtCh, for example - so the idea that they'd try to create a new shade of brown when they want working ability just doesn't wash with me! It's the pet and commercial breeders who are more interested in 'pretty colours'.

Sorry brain needs sharpening ;-)

Still I like it as an urban myth.  & my dh's bitch doesn't half look funny retrieving a pheasant with her red ears aflapping next to her black body (he gets alot of stick for it, I think she's beautiful - but don't tell him I said so!)

Many black dogs in different breeds have reddy tinges, including Pomeranian's, Newf's etc, even in Spanish :-)
If I wanted a Poodle, OES, TT or IWS I would have bought one. SWD's shd. be natural and rustic. No

he recyles anything from beers cans to newspapers
you just give them to him when u have finished with them and he goes out side and puts them in the box un aided( wel we open back door)
he can open back door and let hiself back in its funny, he was gunna campaigne in schools to show off to the kids for recycling but he gets a lil horny round small children so thought to let that one lol. gunna get fat chocolate one next they are cool
