the point of my post is that i find so many people sending posts more and more each day asking how and when to breed there little pet dog when they dont have the first clue about breeding if this post stops only one inexperience person from breeding there pet, well then i think its a good thing. some{ not all}people think breeding is easy and go into it with both eyes shut and then problems occur. , and its the resulting puppys and the mothers of these such puppies that suffer.

hi , just wanted to say that before any one starts breeding they are a novice and a first timer~every one has to start at some point.I think the biggest problem is the lack of help given to people that want to get into this avenue.We collect our bitch in December , ive had a keen interest in the breed for many year~i have written to the kennel club more times than i care to recall asking how do i start in the world of dog showing?i have never yet recieved a reply.I too would love to breed in the future,but after spending time with my dog and getting to know what makes a good dog~and what dosent.I want to learn everything about the breed and the show world first....problem is no one's willing to let outsiders in!

Thankfully im not going to jump right ahead and do it anyway,i'll keep on pestering untill my minds at rest.I think too much of the breed to jump in without knowing EVERYthing.But what about those who dont respect the breed? who seek information and get snubbed...they might think " do it anyway" ...and make a huge mistake~all because they were not let into the sometimes " snobby" world of dog breeders and showers???????

sorry maybe using the word novice was the wrong choice of word, as you can see i have changed the heading of my post hope this meets with your approval, yes some novices do, do thher homework before they breed and aftearall we where all novices once, but if this post stops one idiot from breeding there pet dog for all the wrong reasons , well i think thats a job welll done ,ive seen it with my own eyes people breeding to make a llittle extra cash,and believe me it is little if you give your bitch and puppies the best possible care , breeding dogs is not the best best way to make bundles of cash

Perhaps it might "stop" one person, I don't know. I wanted to stop reading halfway through it, just in disgust at the heavy hateful sarcasm. I don't think that many people would recognize themselves in that...but I could be wrong. I quite often am :rolleyes:

I did find this flow chart and 'common sense guidelines' on a breed club's web page to be quite helpful and informative.
A tad less inflamatory and very clearly written.... what do you think?

Sorry, Beau, I agree with the others - the post does nothing , I suspect, except irritate people. It just implies that whoever wrote it in the first place was in an position of superiority, and out to shock everybody else into submission.

Educate, by all means except this - not shock horror tactics, but straight forward education - with basic visual facts

I find this posting very inflammatory,very condisending ( sp ! ) and a host of all other words I can't think of at this hour of the morning .I have no intentions of breeding but if I did I would be inclined to think who th e h* ll are you to speak to me this way ,in fact it would probably push me down the ' I'll show you' route '
the very fact that people come on to a forum and ask questions shows they have some responsability about them .
yes, there are indiscriminate breeders about and yes there are people who have a litter for friends - but there are indiscriminate people in all walks of life and ranting at them has never shown to have any effect .
the minute you atart to 'talk down to your audience ' you have lost them and I'm afraid that is what you have done for me .
I am a novice owner but I would rather listen to the calm voice of reason and logic than shock /horror sarcasm tactics -after all we are adults ( aren't we ! )

Well......I was a little annoyed when I first read the post, being a little sensitive to the issue at the moment:(
I felt that this included a dig at my post a couple of days ago and I HOPE that this is not the case.
We have been in the world of dogs for over 10 years and have a combined total of 62 years in the medical profession,whilst this has nothing to do with the issue, we could do nothing to stop the events that transpired, that doesn't mean we are novice or irresponsible, but unfortunately it's down to sheer bad luck.
You will never stop indiscriminate breeding by people who probably have never and will never log onto a forum such as this.
I think that the majority of people that use this site do so to glean information and advice from amateurs and professionals alike.
Having read the post a few more times I hear what's being said, but it's like preaching to the converted,those that use this site will probably agree with trying to stamp out irresponsible and indiscriminate breeding for either financial gain or purely for the sake of it,but those who are out there for that purpose will probably not take any notice of the post at all.
This post will annoy and irritate the vast majority of people who are responsible and are well aware that breeding is not a bed of roses, and I doubt whether anyone reading the post will be encouraged to re consider breeding or not.
Or maybe I am being TOO naive!!!

?? I did understand the post, but found it very upsetting and crude. I've been reading the post's on champdogs for many months now, most of the members only have the best interests of there dog's at hand, and even if there where puppy farmers who that applied to, I don't think many of them are member's!! I think you mean well, but please credit us with some common sense!!

Carter ..the trouble is not with the vast majority of Chamdoggers ..but we get a large amount of *Guests* posts where they are asking *can you help me find a stud dog for my 1 year old bitch* etc etc ...some folk (NOT Champdoggers) just look on it as an easy way to make a buck

It was the DIY home vasectomy that really turned me off this post. What normal person would even think of 'saving money' in this manner? As for abnormal individuals -- I don't think they would be interested in this board's opinion :rolleyes:

I think that the point about the home vasectomy saving money is akin to the fact that many people think that it will make them money to have pups - and do not think of the consequences first, second or in most cases at all. I have had exactly these things happen to me - and had i not known all idid them my bitch would definately have been lost... The point is people donot think.. and the majority of guests who come on here do not come for advice about stud dogs etc but want to find one easily and cheaply... they want someone to contact tham and say - "sure, use mine" and thats as far as their thinking actually goes.

Yes, this post was in bad taste, and could have been put better - but the fact was it is going for a reaction and it got one... I just hope that any people who read this dont think that it is merely shock value... belive it, this happens much more commonly than most believe and it truly is this nasty, and shocking and disgusting - but, above all, it is true!
