I have spoken to many breeders and have veiwed a litter of puppies already, but at this time of the year I was told that a litter of Japanese Akita's would be difficult to find! I want to veiw some more litters and, not just rush into buying the first pup I see. Could you please reccomend any breeders that may have a litter ready to veiw!
Ideally, I am looking for a puppy/dog between the ages of 4wks - 16wks. I live in the Bristol area, so anywhere thats no more than a 3 hour drive would be great.

you might find that most well-bred puppies are already booked from an early age, and if not, before the litter is even born!

We have a 2 year old Akita and love him to bits. We've had him since he was a pup but previous to that we had a rescued Akita bitch. The reason we were able to purchase a pup was because we knew of the litter due to them being bred at the same kennels we'd had the 'rescue' from.
One thing I wouldn't recommend doing is buying from a local newspaper advert. Those with the best pups (temperament) don't need to advertise.
Contact some of the breed rescue societies who may then be able to give you names/addresses of useful contacts, etc.
With a dog this big and powerful it is vital that you get one with the best temperament possible.
I'm sure you already know this, but they are not a breed to be taken on lightly, being quite complex. Best to have had some experience of dogs before choosing an Akita. Hope this helps a little.
