Did anyone else see that a mule had given birth to a donkey x mule foal (verified by DNA tests).

It's on http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2399773.stm

Dare say someone will cotton on and labradoodles and pug-oodles will soon be phased out in favour of
fox-oggies or dingoggies (or maybe they have already......)

I also looked at a link from that page to an earlier news story Zorse about a shetland/zebra cross which is cute too.

Intriguing what mixes could be come up with !!!!!

I realize the Zorse was an accident. Cute though. I cringe at the thought of it ever being socialized properly. Zebras are virtually impossible to train. Shetlands--- well, they can be good, but they can be very very difficult
cool

I think they call them Wolf Hybrids. There is a big problem in the Jackal surviving in some places due to interbreeding with feral dogs, who are bigger, and take over the pack. so not all cross speies offspring are sterile.

With the mule, the number of chromosomes differs from that of either parent, therefore it's usually sterile, but something must have mutated somewhere, I suppose.
Don't actually know about the chromosome number in different dog species - I'll toddle off and have a Google-look!

Which explains why dogs will cross with wolves, but not with foxes, as the chromosome numbers are very different
