Hi All
I have checked out this topic under the search engine, but hopefully you can give me a bit of advice. I know dogs can go "off" their food at times and have been told that Vizslas can be particularly fussy, but mine has been very unconcerned about his food for about two weeks now. He is usually fed half about 7.30am and the second dinner about 5pm. He is on Burns (but was originally on Arden Grange, which he ate, but was a bit fussy at times too) and normally eats it. I do add a bit of chicken and a small amount of chicken gravy and he usually eats it. Whats getting to me just now that no matter what tempting additions are in it (grated carrot, chicken, small amount of melted butter etc), he is having none of it. As an experiment this morning when he wouldn't eat what I left last night, I boiled some fresh chicken (pre-cooked from Marks and Spencer, no less!) and put some of the stock and some of the chicken meat onto some bread and gave it to him. He reluctantly went over to it and ate half - added up to half a slice of bread! He left the rest, including some of the chicken. He is his usual self though, full of energy and playing - especially at night when you want to watch TV - any ideas whats going on with him?

Have you checked his teeth and his mouth, to make sure there is no discomfort there? He may have a small abscess or something, which is making it painful for him to eat.
If he's been off his food for a while, why not call the vet? Their phone advice is free, although it generally ends "why not bring him in"

Sorry I can't be more help.

Yeah, must go and have a look - but he will eat biscuits, chews etc, hence I haven't already checked. Just boiled some rice and tuna and mixed it with a little food and hey presto he did eat it, but not it all. Had another thought too - he wanted into the garden immediately we came in from our walk (about an hour ago) - and went straight to one fence, sniffing like mad - I wonder if there is a bitch in heat anywhere near. All the dogs in the immediate area are dogs or 2 spayed bitches, but I do know there is a Boxer pup bitch about 200 yards away and she must be around 8 months now.....mmmmm and it was the direction of that house he was sniffing!!! On saying that he's not whining or dashing off when I let him out. Who knows, I'm sure there is no dog that has starved itself to death and I don't think he's ill at all - fit as a flea when out and about.
Probably doing a Viz fuss thing.

Hi, it sounds to me that your dog is in love :D As long as he is drinking and seems happy then I dont think I would panic yet, try some scrambeled egg if he eats all that then he probably has a dogy belly. good luck Debbie
Hi - my westie didn't eat for about two weeks - kept going back to the vet and they did an extra and stuff. Anyway - it turned out she had got a bit constipated - which I thought was strange because she seemed to be going regular - anyway - she must have got a back log going on inside her becaue they gave her something in the dog world thats similar to an enima and my god did it o something!! - anyway - she started eating agian - so must have done the trick!!!!!
Good luck - Karen
