Hi all, the worry person is back again!!! lol
Before I had Angel she had only had a diet of raw chicken wings and nothing else. By the time I got her, she was three weeks pregnant. She is now six weeks in whelp and is having the following......raw minced steak (no,Im not megga rich , its on special offer at the supermarket, so have stocked up) tripe, mixer, multivitamin powder. cooked vegetables, fish, and one meal of complete food, all divided into four small meals a day. The vet says from the scan, that the pups are a good size, but I really am worried, that mum and babies missed out on the first three weeks. Is there anything that I could add, to help make up for the initial bad start?
Would someone be kind enough to reply, Id be very grateful. Thanks
Sorry Phillipa I've no idea, I understand your worries but can't answer them not being into BARF feeding.

Puppies are basically like parasites, they will have taken what they needed from the dams body, and I wouldn't have thought it would have taxed her that much in early pregnancy, and you are more than making up for it now.

Even if they have missed out on something in those early weeks - there's nothing you can do about that now. What you are doing though is ensuring they all have what they need now. Unborn puppies, like human babies and all mammals, are parasites and will pull all they can from the mother with no regard to her well-being and the mother simply obliges. Mother nature is so good at protecting the next generation.
Good luck with them - hope all goes well. They certainly have landed on their feet now:D

I don't think that her first 3 weeks will have done much harm to the babies, thats why she was so poor everything was going into her babies.
sounds to me as if you are giving her everything she needs right now, and if you continue the same theme after whelping I am sure she and the babies will be fine.
Don't worry too much!!!

Hi Philippa
Raw chicken wings for three weeks is not in itself bad as they contain a good balance (so the books say) of many of the required nutrients and with feeding raw the aim is for balance over time rather than a balanced meal every day.
Just think, some women eat hardly anything or some strange things during their first trimster due to sickness and they generally cope okay
