Thanks Fiona. It was a last chance for more Piranha grand-pups so I was hoping like mad but que sera sera. Mel's seasons are out of sync with the other bitches and I already had a lovely boy (a Cal son and Madame La P. grandson) lined up in case Teel didn't take.

Thanks Christine, its a bit of a gunk, but although I was very sure earlier, I was beginning to suspect that she'd not taken. The early 'signs' must have been a mixture of a mild phantom and wishful thinking. Ah well, these things are sent to try us and its not the end of the line, much less the world.

I do understand that Christine is concerned what she put into her dogs but if, as she says, meat is no longer infected, wonder how that happens, Wormers and chemicals do you think.

Slightly off topic, I was advised by my wolfie mentor to worm bitch pups even more freqently than most people advise until they are about 6 months because that will reduce the worm burden in their own pups when they come to have them. I've always done it and have had very few worms in litters from home- bred bitches. I don't often breed enough to know if that has only been by chance, so I'm interested to know if anyone else does the same and if they think it works.

Yes I had understood that the "cysts", if thats right name, remain in the tissue of the bitch until "woken" but the bitchest hormones when she is in welp, ready to infect the litter of pups before birth. So IMO you do just the correct thing if you want your dogs and pups to be as near as possible uninfected. I don't do it as I no longer have bitches, well except Elli who as far as breeding is concerned does not count.

Hi Jackie & Sharon, you 2 on form this morning! Well, I can only do the best I can & if the powers to be tell me it`s safe for me & mine to eat it then it`s got to be safe enough for the dogs
And talking about safe food, we are all aware(or should be) of the dangers that a diet consisting of nearly all processed food that contain additives/preservatives etc, is not good for our health, so why is it ok for animals to live a lifetime on nothing else but processed?

Jumping in [$ out here, if we are talking Pork & worms, whilst not entirely an 'Old Wives Tale':D farming practices were changed regarding pigs quite a while ago and it tends to be 'old school' ]-) thought regarding worms & pork I seem to remember

Not THAT long ago I remember at school (1970 or thereabouts) we were taught that pork HAD to be cooked properly as there was always the risk of getting worms from it

My dogs are fed a natural diet with garlic supplement but I do also worm. However, I do use a natural wormer rather than those horrible harsh manufactured ones. As for vaccinations I use homeopathic nosodes for my male and my spayed bitch but I vaccinate my brood bitches and new puppies. This is because while I feel homeopathic protects an adult dog they aren't strong enough to pass the protection onto the puppies through the milk. I also feel that the nosodes work more as a booster rather than being relyable on their own which is why I have the course of vaccinations for puppies. This is my opinion and everyone should make their own minds up as to what they feel is right for their dogs but all dogs should really have some form of protection against worms and other diseases.

My cat and dog are both wormed by the vets with 'chemical' wormers as I have a 7 month old baby and am pregnant again. The risk to my family by not woming them is just too great to take IMO.
My son also has had all of his vaccinations and I was wondering if people on here have had vaccinations themselves or have vaccinations if they are visiting foreign countries that require them? Just wondering if people give themselves chemicals but not their dogs?
