I would like some information about the breeding and training of the German Sheperd.Thank you.
Hi Guest, I'm not a GSD man so I'm not the best one to answer this, but one thing about Shepherds is that they can be very much of a one person dog so socialising a puppy is very important in it's development. A good training club is also a good idea and in this I favour an all breeds club rather than a breed specific club. Although we have a very good GSD training club near me we get quite a few of their members come along to us in order that their dogs meet breeds other than just GSD's
Regards, John
Hi Guest, if you go to www.gsdhelpline.freeserve.co.uk you will find some very good information on the breed. I have a 3yo male and have always loved the breed, they are very easy to train with the right handling, but you do need to socialise them from an early age.

OOh John
You're definitely not a GSD person. Gone are the days when A GSD was a one person dog(thank god!)
Correctly bred GSD's are one of the most versatile of the working dogs(not KC group but Work as in shepherding etc)
Like the Border Collie most in the right hands can turn a paw to most things from sheherding to man work, guide dog to lapdog(if you've got a big lap that is)
They are not a breed to strat breeding without experience as lots sadly are today(I'm involved in rescue)
Did you know that the late Gwen Barrington (BRITTAS)used to have hem trained to the GUN!1 & all hers were GERMAN breeding! It came as a shock to guns used to gundogs!! Same dogs used to work sheep as well & they all worked for anyone!
Regards Deejay
Hi Deejay, I hang my head and bow to your greater knowledge of GSD's

Hi there
Depends on which type of GSD you are interested in as to which books or sites to look at
There are some really excellent books by GSD breeders & trainers of long standing
Allen & Allen
Brian Wootton
John Cree
The Late Nem Elliot
Most of these are available in libraries
There are also some excellent Web sites to look at to see which type you like
All GSD's whether show or working bred should have excellence temperaments & characters & be Screened for HD, Haemophillia etc
try looking at www.conadrew,co,uk for the international type & the UK GSD(ALSATIAN)CLUB site for the English Alsatian type(I don't know it's actual name)
