Can anyone advise me on the best food for a low fat diet for my 9 year old lab Tara who has just been diagnosed with liver problems?

Hi Jc,
I noticed your other thread about Tara. Hopefully Mattie or John will come along and advise. They're 2 lab experts on Champdogs.

Thanks for your reply. Mattie or John, if you are out there I would appreciate any advice you could give.

I don't know what sort of food you give at the moment, but one you might want to check out is Burns High Oats Recipe. Good luck. I hope you find the right diet for your dog.

Hills have a prescription diet specifically designed for dogs with liver problems. It's called canine l/d.
It won't be cheap!

Was impressed with the Burns site and I am going to give it a try. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, Chappie (dried or tinned) is supposed to be a good low-fat diet, and is easy to obtain.
I use it with my dogs, one of whom was diagnosed with a dodgy liver 4 years ago (she's now nearly 8) and she's now fine.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I have an eight year old collie x golden who has progressive kidney problems which occasionally make him fit, with Chappie, both complete and tinned, we have managed to keep him off conventional medication.

For an emergency weight loss we have found that tinned chappie mixed with wheetabix works but only for very short periods
