after seeing the vet he has given me seleen wash to try . i have now washed her twice with it and although her coat is lovely and shiney she has lost more hair and her skin is really flakey, now larger lumps of dandruff. i have to go back to the vet in a week any ideas ?

this happened to hubbys dog - vet gave him some sort of medicated shampoo, flee treatment . He did nt have fleas but he got treated and then bathed in medicated shampoo this seemed to stop fur falling out after several washes.We didn't find out cause though.

Our old dobe went bald - well fur very sparse - but he was old and vet thought it could have been thyroid although we did not have test done as he was close to the end of his life due to other problems with disc in neck - wobblers syndrome.

Hope you find a solution.

my rough collie had the same thing when we brought him home ......
my soloution was to wash him with head and shoulders watered down ...but still enough to lather up !

And yes that is Head& Shoulders for humans :D

And i also now bath both my dogs (white gsd & blue merle rough collie) with pantene shampoo and conditioner.... they smell wonderful for up to 2 weeks their fur looks great and feels great ...it is cheaper than dog shampoo and my dogs have no side effects (ie dry skin or fur dullness) from it !

I can honstly say that it is the best desition i ever mad to use our shampoo when my dogs had been for a long muddy walk one day (after running out of doggy shampoo)

I know some people wont agree with me and breaders/showers will probably cringe but my dogs fur and skin is in such better shap ! i swear :D

so maybe try Head&Shoulders for 3 washes 3 days apart and rinse off with a fair high powered shower as just puring a jug of water dont seem to have the same effect ....thats how we cleared up my collies dandruff and furr loss when we first got him ...and ohhh we told the vet and he said he hadnt heard of it but coulnt see a huge problem .....he did also say if the Head&Shoulders didnt work them to wash the dog with just plain old water with no form of shampoo

Hope i have helped ...... and if anyone else uses Pantene on thier dogs or something similar and also has good results let me know as i would love to feel like im not the only pro human shampoo for dogs

Hi - the only shampoo I ever use on my lot is Baby Shampoo, its really gentle, hardly any lather (less chance of stinging eyes), and easy to rinse out. Mine smell like babies!! Julie:)

We used human shampoo for years when we had Golden Retrievers. (We used Flex). It was Golden breeders/exhibitors that recommended it and again TT exhibitors/breeders have recommended human shampoo. What they recommended is Asda's own brand coconut shampoo and conditioner or their Tea tree one. That's for using on a Tibetan Terrier who gets bathed once a month.

i have been told to use the shampoo initially for 3 weeks, shampooing once a week. i have introduced more natural raw foods into her diet and im hopeing that this will help. she seems otherwise well ( totally mad ,full of life) her coat is shiny ,she doesn't smell its just the hair hair loss and bad dandruff which dandruff is much worse after a bath .i dont know if this is the idea of the shampoo to rid the skin of any loose hair and dry skin. we go back to the vets monday.

How long are you supposed to use the shampoo for?

There are so many causes, mites heavy moult, allergy (to washing powder for bedding, damp weather, food etc etc).

Why not look into feeding her a natural diet if you don't already - and, if it keeps up for more than about six weeks get her T4 tested
