By ALI.C Date 30.12.02 12:23 GMT
I so want Leigh to come back. :-(
Its like a free for all. The mud slinging and name calling has become dreadful.
There are so many threads at the moment that Leigh would have either whipped away or locked.
One thread has over 300 posts on it now. :-(
If Leigh can't or won't come back, we need a moderator. We need someone to bring this back to how it was before. The board hasn't got worse its just that the job Leigh did to keep it the way it was, went largely un-noticed.
She was the one who kept it the way it was.
I suppose this is a kind of petition. I know all the regulars will support me in saying we NEED someone to keep all this under control. :-(
Pleeeeease admin, give us Leigh back or someone who could fill her very big boots ;-) :-)
By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 30.12.02 12:26 GMT
i agree.
I didnt agree with the way Phillippa was treated , however THAT DID NOT MEAN i wanted Leigh to go , nor that i thought her job was easy.
Does anybody have contact with Leigh??/
Can we not beg her back before the new year??!!??!?!?!?!
By taffyparker [gb] Date 30.12.02 12:28 GMT
I second that! I've decided to stop posting unless I have an urgent enquiry. We used to be able to support/advise diplomatically. I for one will do my best to ignore any posts I can't respond to positively from now on.
I find it all very sad.

Me too Mattie, I am half afraid to post anything on here anymore.

We seem to have a plethora of (edited to TROLLS) creeping onto the board at the moment and if anyone wanting honest advice comes on here, they are going to go away with some very bad advice indeed if we are not careful.

Hows the boy doing???? Still enamooured with him or has the rose coloured specs gone yet :-D

Hi Ali,
I don't think having Leigh back would make a difference as folk didn't take a lot of notice of her when she was here.:-(

As for moderator. The board was still being moderated after Leigh left and I think if it were me that owned the board, I'd be making sure my investment was moderated.

Admin are obviously well aware of what is happening on the board as I, for one, complained to them late on Xmas Eve at Debbie breaking the ToS. My e-mail was acknowledged within 10 minutes wishing me a merry christmas. Therefore, I would suggest you take it up with admin directly but if admin don't want to take notice of complaints we can't force them :-)
Dot
By ALI.C Date 30.12.02 12:40 GMT
Hi Dot :-)
I disagree (in a happy smiley way :D )
Having Leigh back would make a difference. Yes we still had the trouble but apart from that last one, nothing ever got out of control. Threads that have run on and on and on and other argumentative threads would have been whipped off to cyber heaven by now.
If this board is being moderated then I havnt noticed ;-)
I do not wish to compain to admin, they probably have enough on their plates, I am simply asking for Leigh to return.
Ali :-)
By taffyparker [gb] Date 30.12.02 12:49 GMT
I had a respect for Leighs opinions/authority. She added a personal touch and emailed me privately to suggest I removed a spot of animal rights banter before I got publicly reprimanded, which I was very grateful for. I sometimes wonder if emails are acknowledged automatically these days by a server because the human touch is absent.I hope Leigh does know that she was valued here.
By dot [gb] Date 30.12.02 12:57 GMT
The reply to my e-mail was definitely a human one - not automatic and, yes, Leigh did a difficult job but she always told us to stay away from inflamatory posts but no-one listened

Threads were still being locked / removed etc AFTER Leigh left and I cannot think why Admin would choose to no longer want to protect their board UNLESS for some reason the board is now surplus to requirements :-(

Ick :-( :-( :-(
By ALI.C Date 30.12.02 13:01 GMT
I hope you are wrong Dot :-( I would hate to lose this board.)

But you are right in what you say. Leigh did encourage people to not post on the volatile ones and yes people did not often listen. Thats the shame of it all :-(
Ali :-)
By mr murphy [gb] Date 30.12.02 13:52 GMT
This board needs a moderator to lock out of hand threads/posts/etc. I wish leigh would come back. Anytime the moderator picked up on anything I said I apologised.
What happens if the board is left to deteriorate?. anyone know?.

By John (*****) [gb] Date 30.12.02 13:53 GMT
Leigh did more for this board and the people posting on it than anyone else. We all have things which we feel rather strongly about and having our post removed makes us feel victimised. Trouble is, others dont see that post so when theirs is removed they feel victimised and feel they are the only ones. If the truth were known, just about everyone who has been on the board for a while and who feels passionatly about a particular subject has had a post or more removed. It is not victimisation it is keeping the peace. Without Leigh on the board we have just had a thread of well over 300 posts which in truth was not worth more than half a dozon at best. It has now spilled over onto another thread and is tedious in the extream. What this board needs at the moment is Good Strong Leadership!

Yes, I'll put my name here. Please come back Leigh, we need you.

Regards, John
By ALI.C Date 30.12.02 13:58 GMT
Thanks John :-)
I too have a a couple of threads/posts removed and received a private email from Leigh explaining why the thread had been removed. I never felt victimised, just took it on the chin and tried to behave;)
You are right. We need Good Stong leadership.

Hi Ali , hope you had a great Christmas :-) I think that Leigh will stay gone , more for her own sanity rather than anything else :-( As it may NOW have become obvious to some folks here of the board , Leigh did an awful lot for us ..more than some realized possibly?

I rather think Leighs position became untenable after being all but called a liar by various people :-( The threads now in progress and reaching gigantic proportions are an indication of how much a moderator is needed ..there are people taking advantage ..just look at the thread on breeding and see how many non breeders have posted over and over again :-( Look also at Mr Murphys thread on Foo and the amount of people who have deleted their posts ....I havent seen the posts so I dont know what they said but obviously some folks are having problems with itchy fingers on the keyboard ;-) ( A problem we have all suffered from in the past ;-) )

I would love to have Leigh back ....my position on that subject has been no secret , I rather get the feeling that , at the moment , we are being given enough rope to hang ourselves with , and some people are actually offering to tie the knot :-)

Oh and this WILL be my only post on this thread :-)

Melody
6,000 words DONE b4 January 7th :-)

Hi Mel :-)
I had a great christmas thanks :D
Spent most of it intoxicated by Baileys eek and playing on Jakes playstation :D
oh and eating rather a lot!!!!! I am dreading returning to WW on the 8th :o :D
Hope you had a great time.

You are right about the rope thingy :-(
But when I posted this thread I wanted it to be a feel good, lets support each other thread.

The only people who can save this board is us :-( At the end of the day, we are the ones who are responsible, we are the ones who are keeping those threads alive.
The Buck stops here as they say.
Lets see those thread titles moving down the active topics list and eventually disappearing with no new posts.
Keep the right ones active like Nic and Zoes new pups and Julies (muddydogs) question about her monster. Even Liz's Sea monkeys. :D :D Lol
By Dessie [gb] Date 30.12.02 14:48 GMT
Me too :D

Or failing that I did suggest to Admin that they should have a Moderator on each Board so that it wouldn't be left to just one person !! I belong to a Cocker site and we have lots of Moderators they all look after different Topics/Boards and it works fine.

By JaneS (Moderator) [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:12 GMT
Here, here Dessie. I haven't been posting here much lately due to the interminable argy bargying which is boring in the extreme - heaven knows what new members think when they read some of the recent threads. This board is too huge for one moderator - no-one can sit at their computer all day monitoring all the threads (though people used to expect poor Leigh to do this). Most big forums nowadays have Forum Teams to keep things running smoothly - trouble is I can't see many wanting to volunteer to do this for Champdogs :D
By steve [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:21 GMT
Sea Monkeys are very interesting :D
Everybody knows the answer it's just keeping the fingers still at the appropriate time ;-)very difficult, guilty as charged ;-)
I think Melody hit the nail on the head give enough rope and ..................................erchhhh!!!!
Liz :-)
Ps I'd love the job and I would install a 'slap' button -one false move and I'd hit the button and the offender would recieve a kipper across the chops :D
By muddydogs [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:25 GMT
Ok , I don't vote for Liz, she can't be trusted with her slap button!!!!:D :D :D Julie:)

I have a list :D
By Ingrid (****) [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:53 GMT
I have to echo what's being said, I would love to see Leigh come back, I miss her humour among other things. The old saying 'You never know what you've got till it's gone' applies here.
I tend to just skim through the posts these days, all the arguing etc is so tedious, it meant I missed a very important one over the christmas period & I feel awful about it. Ingrid
By SaraW [gb] Date 30.12.02 19:43 GMT
here here Ingrid :-)

Ingrid and others have raised a valid point - because of the backbiting and long threads of arguments many people are skimming and not taking in the posts properly.
A case in point (and the one to which Ingrid refers I think) was the Alfie and Ibuprofen thread. Aflie could have died - I wonder how many people actually saw Liz's posts in amongst all the other stuff and of those who didn't see it how many could have yelled how important it was to get him to the vets I wonder?

Lets hope we don't nearly miss any other vital posts and act too late next time.

I miss Leigh but if I were her it'd take alot to get me back after being called a liar :-(

Sara :-)

hope you don't mind me using Alfie as an example Liz but it best illustrates the point
By alfie [gb] Date 30.12.02 23:59 GMT
No, I don't mind Sara, I'm grateful for all the help I did receive, and One very important thing I have learned from it is to never just accept that a vet always knows what he's talking about! I will be the vet's customer from hell in future, always questioning down to the last point!

By Dessie [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:31 GMT
Thanks Jane and I don't blame you from keep your head down so to speak :-( The Board has gone off key somewhat.

I hope you and all at Shenmore had a great Christmas :D

Did you see the message under General and Names from Lynsey. Her Cocker pup which she was going to pick up on Friday has an enlarged heart :-(

Dare say I will talk to you soon.
By Quinn [gb] Date 30.12.02 15:55 GMT
Yes, I appreciated having Leigh moderate the board. I personally never had any issues with the way she treated my posts. But I have also tried to behave and post in a reasonable, nonagressive way. So therefore I didn't have any real run ins with her.

The job of moderator is just that. A job. And like I tell my husband, you are replacable. Maybe the next person that comes along won't fulfill your duties as well as you did. They may even do them better. Whatever the case, I don't honestly think Leigh will be coming back. If I were her I would quite frankley be relieved not having to break up some of the silly squabbles that occur on this board. So that leaves someone else to pick up the pieces.

Many of you who have been on this board for at least a year will probably appreciate what I am about to say next. Admin/Mark/Batman has never been the most forthcoming person in the world when it comes to his plans for this site. We have usually been advised of policy changes/enforcement when he is darn well ready to say his peace. I personally have a sneaky suspicion he is letting those of us who have been around for a while squirm and become increasingly unhappy with the way the board is being (or not) moderated. It's possible he could careless if things to get out of hand so we will better appreciate being moderated. Anyone feel like children being taught a lesson?

I have sent a message about the board needing moderating. I got a "thank you for message, we'll look into it, happy new year". I really feel like we're being left to stew in our own juices.
By carolyn (****) Date 30.12.02 16:02 GMT
I would be happy to lock quite a few subjects at the moment.
Mark if you need some one to help lock some of these very long winded and boring subjects..... let me know
Leigh did a great jpb and i only hope she will come back..even if its unde a differant name (not that she needs to).

Even sending this I know the arguing will still go on
but at least I have the option to scroll past them :-)
An empty vessel makes the most noise. :-)

I never had a "run-in" with Leigh. I wish she would come back she did a very good job at keeping this board civil and organized. I have been gone for awhile and don't even know exactly why she is no more. Sad.

By Lokis mum (*****) [gb] Date 30.12.02 20:16 GMT
Yes, I do think we need a moderator: we've had the "trolls" come creeping in; we've had people on their soapboxes, defending what is, to most of us, the indefensible, with threads becoming longer and more cumbersome - and repetitive. Like a lot of others, I've sat on my hands rather than start typing and letting my fingers run away with me!!

I would be extremely surprised if Leigh were to return: I hope she will post as a forum member again, but I do think we need strong moderators - if only to knock the soapboxes down!

There is somebody moderating. There's a lock on one post and a certain, other, very long post, has disappeared :-)
By Dawn B (****) [gb] Date 30.12.02 21:21 GMT
You are all right. When Leigh is not here look what happens. Just shows what an excellent job she did. I hope she reconsiders, I for one don't post very often now, with no moderator, its not worth it.
Dawn.

I also would like to see a Moderator back on here - I didn't speak to Leigh much but she did a bloody good job as far as I could see. But saying that I don't think she would want to come back.

I will add my vote to see Leigh coming back to work .
I am afraid we are all only human and when the mouse is away the cat will play , so anyone with a gripe will be delighted at the chance to have a go .
It was a nice place and everyone got on well
Shame it all went sour.

I missed this post yesterday.... I dont often look into this section. You can put me down as supporting leigh but I doubt she would want to come back here now to clean up so much rubbish after the ordeal she was put through I think we are asking too much.
It is getting infuriating I am finding myself having to bite my tongue and stay back on many of the posts otherwise it would be too easy to add fuel to fire and have the forum burn itself out.

Its easy to say dont add to the troublesome posts.... not always easy to do as we dont want the person to get away with it and the post remaining there is just as good as good as rubbing our faces in it....

why dont a few of us offer our services to mark in the form of a mini-committee with no one person in complete control and posts moderated when the majority of the committee agree..... this could stay an annonymous group of people so nobody bears the brunt of a full on character assasination when members disprove of the moderating.

any volunteers?

:-)

By Dessie [gb] Date 31.12.02 11:40 GMT
This is my thoughts exactly Kitty ......

If Admin were to have a Team of Forum Moderators each taking on a different Board this would take the stress of one person doing it all!! If some Boards were really busy then have two on that particular one. The Moderators don't have to be named just given the powers to help keep this Board going as I for one do enjoy it and would like to see these Trolls and Windup Merchants stopped !!!
By nicolla [gb] Date 31.12.02 13:59 GMT
I'd love to see Leigh back too.

The board is awful without a moderator and I would love to see it get back to normal.

Happy New Year Everyone

I think our prayers have been answered. In just the last 24 hours , personally, I feel this board has improved 100%. There is a much better feel good factor :-)
I think it also has something to do with people resisting the urge to bite and letting unneccessary threads and posts disappear ;-) Everyone deserves a pat on the back.

This board definately needs a moderator, if Leigh doesn't return then we need someone just as dedicated as she was. However, I think what would be best is for the moderator to remain anonymous! Just call themselves Moderator/Admin or whatever, that way no one can accuse any one individual and it shouldn't get personal because no one would know who the Moderator was, what their beliefs/preferences were etc. etc. It would also allow that Moderator to post as themselves e.g. under their own name, to allow them to post their opinion/advice and so on without them being accused of having anything other than an opinion, just like everyone else.

I for one not only miss having Leigh as the Moderator but I miss all her help and advice too. I always enjoyed reading her posts to other people's problems, requests etc. and now we have lost all of that :-( I never saw any of the postings that made Leigh decide to leave but if I thought I had contributed in anyway to her leaving I would be thoroughly ashamed of myself. :-(

I would love Leigh to return, but if she doesn't then I can't blame her one little bit !
By Pammy [gb] Date 05.01.03 17:44 GMT
Ditto - well said Claire
By sam (*****) [gb] Date 05.01.03 17:53 GMT

By Julieann [gb] Date 12.01.03 17:45 GMT
Wonder what Leigh is doing? I too miss her she was very supportive to me and had good advise as well as keeping us lot in line. I would love to hear from her again? Julieann :-) xxx
By westie lover [gb] Date 27.01.03 09:59 GMT
Yes, me too. Although imo the board is being moderated satifactorally Leigh was very experienced and occasionally gave very helpful answers when no-one else either knew the answer or others that did, didn't post it. It was also nice to know the face behind the "handbag". Perhaps she is sick to death of us all, but it would be lovely to have her back, even if it were just as a regular poster. I am sure 99% of us miss her. If you read this Leigh, hope you are well and your pup is getting better, I often wonder how she is. XX from me too.
By Brainless (Moderator) [gb] Date 27.01.03 13:07 GMT
Yes I would love to know how Leigh is getting on. I do think that having an anonymous moderator is wise, as then things aimed at admin cannot become personal, and whoever th4e moderator is can still post as themselves.

I think in the past people had difficulty seperating Leigh as a person and her personal views, from her Admin moderator role.

Love to hear from you Leigh if you bother to lurk, please say hello to your friends!!! :D
Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.
By John (*****) [gb] Date 27.01.03 19:39 GMT
I don't know if Leigh reads the board or not but if she does then I'm adding my voice to this. Leigh was one of the most knowledgeable people on here and I'd love to see her back. I would not wish the strain of moderating on her, that is something I'm sure she can live without, but we need her common sense.

John
