We have been feeding our lab puppy (14 weeks old) since we had him on what the breeder was feeding (Beta Puppy) But over tha last few days when we have gone to feed him, instead of him jumping around like some loon cos' he knows it's coming, he dosen't bat an eye, you can even put the food down he'll walk up have a sniff grab a mouthful, wonder off, have another mouthful and do the same, he does eat it, but not straight the way like he was. I'm wondering if A) he's gone off it and time to change, in which case, suggestions would be good. or B)He's feeling a bit "under the weather" although there are no obvious signs, and he's is usual self! Is it worth trying to change his food ????

Instead of changing his food , try putting the bowl down ..then after about 10 minutes , pick it up again. Then put it down again at the next feed. Try this for a few days ..at the moment he knows he can get food whenever he feels like it so there is no hurry

We had the same with ours when he was small ...but he now knows if he doesn't eat what he is given , he gets nothing until the next meal

Just a thought - has he been getting too much or too many meals a day ? He might just not be very hungry

Also if you haven't already done so it may be time to drop him from 4 meals to three!

Hi we feed our Bull Terrier pup on the same and she does exactly the same but now i add just a teaspoon of tuna and mix it up well and she eats the whole lot.Try this it works.

We had the same problem with our black lab of the same age. Left food down for a few minutes but the moment she walked away from it I would take it away and she would get nothing till the next feed. She soon learnt the lesson - they don't like being hungry! Had same problem with my akita (9 months old) and the same lessons worked for her.

By changing his food you are just encouraging him to become a fussy eater IMHO.Stick to what he is on if possible and do as the other posters suggested-try cutting the number of feeds and picking it up after a few minutes and not offering food again til next scheduled feed time

Thanks for all your help......Yesterday he was better he ate all 3 meals when they were given, although just saying that this lunchtime he had a few mouthfuls and walked away, and I did as suggested and picked it up. I had the look of "disgust" but I never gave it back........lets see how he goes.

A bit of grated cheese through it works wonders too! :D

Yep - I did the grated cheese thing for Mungo, he went off his food. One scrape on the grater with a bit of cheddar and he was off!!
Have taken lots of lovely pics but waiting for David the tecky partner to do the rest!!

When my bitch was a puppy she also went off her food and seemed disinterested in eating. It was just a phase that passed and she went on to grow into the greediest dog I've known
Don't worry unless your pup loses a lot of condition and seems to suffer ill effect.
