I have a Golden Retriever which is almost one year old. Her coat is a very light crem, almost white. She has a golden line on her head and the ears are starting to become golden. I want to know if there is somethig that i can give her to get some golden color on her coat. In Romania, in March the dog competition is starting and we want to participate. In Romania Golden Retrievers are since 2001. So the doctors from here are not so familiar with them. One doctor told me that she is too fat (she is 26Kg and har size is 52 cm) and too small in heigh. I started to give her Eukanube Light - Adult, as doctor said, even she is 11 months and a half. She has a private trainer and in the morning she gets at the training class one chiken chest. Later she gets 70 grams of eukanuba and once at two days she gets a carrot.
This is her menu, excepting weekends when she gets 170grams of eukanuba, instead of the chiken chest.
Is it ok to feed her like that?
What can I do for her? Can I do something for her not to look so fat?
Thanks!!!

It's hard to judge her weight without seeing her, but when you stroke her side, can you feel her ribs fairly easily, or do you really have to poke through fat to feel them? And when she is standing and you look down on her, can you see a waist between her ribs and her hips? She seems to be at the low end of both the weight and height range, so she doesn't sound hugely fat. Perhaps she needs more exercise?

The only thing I can think of that would darken her colour slightly would be carrot, but you are already giving that - too many wouldn't be a good thing. She probably will never be darker than her ears are now.

Hope this helps :-)

Tin of paint? Sorry, I could not risist that! But seriously, puppies usually darken slightly as they mature. But the difference is only marginal. What you have is almost what you will get.

I would have said that her height to weight ratio is not far out (Bareing in mind that I am in Labradors not Goldens). At around a year old I would say she still has some growing to go. Certainly at that age I would expect my Labradors to still be growing.

At 52cm, which is the height for males in my breed (advised weight 23kg). I would imagine that a Golden bitch should not be heavier than this. so about 3kg to loose. It will take quite a long time, possibly about 3 months.

I am affraid that you cannot feed her anything to make her darker but all of mine have got darker as they got older, usually they go the same colour of their ears when they were puppies.
