My dog always barks when I walk past people in the street. Little children get really frightened. Really he would never hurt any one!

hi i have a 16 week old westie who barks at people.
i take a small water squirter and every time toddy barks i squirt him (not hard) each bark or growl gets a squirt it is working and the worst thing out of it is toddy gets wet.
and you dont get angry.

Hi Best Friend ...maybe your dog just needs to be socialised more ...how old is he and what breed? It might help if you could take him to training classes

To Melody

He is around 6-7 years old and I don't know how much training will cost.

At 6 or 7 years he's entering middle age, and his eye sight may not be all it was, if this barking has started suddenly and is new behaviour for him, I'd get him checked out with the vet to make sure there is nothing physical causing it, once you've established that, he really needs to be observed by somebody who knows what they are doing to find out just *why* - is he scared, does he think he's in charge and is telling people they shouldn't come near you etc.....
