Is it just Goldens or is breeding always this frustrating? Charlotte who is due in ONE week has now decided she doesn't want to eat. I have to hand-feed her to get anything into her all, she ignores her dish as if it had nothing to do with her! I have tried every kind of puppy kibble on the market & most of the canned stuff , though the selection isn't great here in Aussie. We are now making our way through the people-food menu. What she will have a bit of this time: next time she won't touch. She has tasted & had bits of cottage cheese, cooked & raw chicken, regular cheese, beef liver, vegies, fruit, scrambled eggs, minced beef, the list is growing by the day. the pantry is full of rejected dog food. Before she became pregnant she was on a fresh diet (no commercial food) & was a good eater, but my vet said she needed puppy kibble for the extra nutrition: pity he didn't convince HER of that! I am growing worried about the health of her pups. Anyone else had this problem?
HI, dont worry too much she is probably too full and uncomfortable to eat much - I remember the feeling well!!! As long as she has been eating well through most of the pregnancy she will be fine. the last week of pregnancy pups tend to just put on weight, so nature knows best as its easier and quicker for her to deliver slightly smaller puppies. MIne are very picky after whelping and will only eat cooked chicken and rice, + calcium supplement , with a little of the broth I have cooked the chicken in. Its important with a larger litter to make sure she drinks enough post whelping to encourage a good milk supply so if she isn't drinking enough try cooking chicken joints in lots of water and give her cooled broth to drink - few refuse it. The first meal they get after whelping is scrambled egg. and then once daily for a week, which helps to stop looseness if they have eaten a lot of the afterbirths.
Hi Wylaway
I feed mine just about anything in the last week,on my hands and knees pretending to eat it myself from the bowl

Don't worry she'll be fine..she's probably got no room,I give mine puppy food too as they seem to like it when they are getting picky, and all the others want it too.
Good luck hope all goes well
