Please tell me is there a smell like lemon juice or something my pup will not like if I sprayed it on the floor..to prevent her weeing in certain spots on the floor ..something harmless of course :-) just wondering as I know cats don't like lemon ..and if there was something for dogs .Thanks

Mustard i think. Mind you, you can't go smearing mustard all over your floor!

Chances are that your dog is recognise her own scent and peeing in the same place. have you tried getting one of those cleaning fluids that remove all traces not sure what they are called but pop into your vet or good pet shop and they should be able to help

Hi Melmel,
Clearing out a cupboard I found a bottle of "Odour Eliminator" which is supposed to remove all traces of the smell which attracts the pup to use the same place again. I bought it in a petshop so I must be easy to obtain. There's also a product called "Bac-to Nature", but I think that is only available at Shows.

There is a product called 'Wash and Stay Off' which is a cleaner for 'accidents'. It also has something in it that stops dogs wanting to wee in that spot again. Mind you, I suppose they could always go to another spot and wee so I don't know how effective it is! You can buy it from Pets at Home.

Most dogs hate the smell of vinegar. I used to mix white vinegar with water to clean up after accidents. It's cheap and it works.

Don't use bleach type products as the ammonia in the bleach is reminscent of the dog's urine and will continue to encourage him to pee there. Oxyclean is a favourite back home (Canada) and is now available over here. It's great.

Stock Nutrition do a product called Check which smell nice to us but puts dogs off weeing in the same spot. Costs about £7.00 for a bottle which makes 25 litres when diluted. I always keep a spray bottle made up for quick use. I also use this to freshen carpets, dog beds etc and as a household spray. The same company make an insect repellant which works just as well - Dynamite is the name and can be sprayed on dogs and in their beds. An added plus is that if you take a small bottle on holiday it stops the mossies biting - I spray round my ankles 'cause thats where they bite me.
