Hi Tilly.
When you breed closely, it amplifies everything, both good characteristics and bad ones too. The most important thing is to honestly know everything possible about the dogs behind the sire and dam, so that you know the qualities that you are doubling up on. A pedigree is only a collection of names, and tells you nothing about the quality of the dogs. That's why it takes many years of experience and learning from breeders who know the old dogs of your breed, before any breeding should be undertaken. It's a very serious commitment to your own bitch, your breed and to the new owners who will take on the puppies that you produce. The Kennel Club will register anything if the sire and dam are registered.
