Hi
Usually only succesful show/working dogs are in demand for stud, and bitch owners approach you if they want to use your dog, not the other way around. He must have his hips scored, with a total score of under 15, (John-is that right?) elbows should also be X rayed to check for problems. He must also be eye tested. the total cost of these procedures will probably be in excess of £200. They MUST be done and have a good result or you will be classed as an irresponsible breeder/puppy farmer, and anyway no-one would want to use him with failed tests or poor scorews.

Also the dog must be a very good example of his breed. I am sure to you he is the most beautiful dog in the world, but to be suitable for stud he must be an outstanding example. Take him to a dog show and see how he does, if you dont actually want to show him, you could find out who does show labs in your area and get their advice.
stud work is not easy, especially with a novice dog, you really must get some experience with someone who does breed dogs, of what to do. You will also need a good knowlegde of whether a bitch is at the right time of her season to be mated, bitches can turn on stud dogs if they are not "ready", and the dog is one of the only animals who has a bone in his penis. If things are not managed properly, he could be fatally injured. If you are really keen to breed dogs, then start by showing or working them. Stud work is not "easy money" and really a lot more trouble than its worth. Also once he has had a taste, as it were, he'll want more, which can become a big nuisance for you and upsetting for him.
Many Champion show dogs have few visiting bitches, so an unshown dog would not be in deamnd. sorry if I have deflated you, but its not worth the bother, unless he does really well in the ring/field.

Labrador hip average is around 16 so you’re not far away Westie Lover. There are so many Stud dogs in Labs, both working and show that as Westie Lover says, without being seen in the ring or field you are going to find it hard to make a start. This is not intended to sound derogatory in any way to your dog in fact as an American dog (I understand from your posting?) it could be useful in bringing new blood into the breed! But the fact remains, without being seen he is unlikely to be used.
Regards, John
