my westie is 5 months old and i have been feeding him pedigree puppy scince we got him he has not doing to bad on it.
the reason he is on tinned food is he would not eat dried food of any sort it just didnt appeal to him.
the concern i have is i would really like him to go back on a complete dry puppy food for the sake of his teeth.
i have heard that pedigree dried complete can make some dogs teeth go brown.
so for this reason i would like to steer clear of it.
as toddy now is loosing his baby teeth i feel it important to noe feed him dried as his adult teeth start to come through.
so basically i would like the complete dried food to look tempting as nutritional for him.
i am not to struck on bakers as the first ingredient is not meat.
please could you give me some advice on brands.
just want to say you lot are a godsend i am a first time puppy owner and i have learnt so much off you all.
thank you

Hi,

I have just put my 6 month old pup on to James Wellbeloved Junior - and he actually eats it :-) The reason this is amazing is that we have never before had 'clean bowl satisfaction' and now we do. He looks good on it too.

I would try a few out if you are going to Petrs at home. My fussy one wouldn't touch James Wellbeloved, and the others don't like any of the Lamb formulas!

Read the labels of a few brands that have meat as the first ingredient, and seee if you can get a smaple for him top try (often they have bags that are broken).

I found the best results with Arden Grange, and also Skinners Field and Trial is enjoyed. Nutro seems to taste good, as does the Eukanuba.

Hiya,

My pup is doing really well on the 'Beta' range.

I've heard a lot of good reports about it also.

The vet here says that Nutro is not a very good brand. They're trying to push their own vet-endorsed brand called Walthams. But I've read on this forum that Nutro is a good choice. Any thoughts anyone?

Isn`t Walthams Pedigree??????/

I've never heard any derogatory comments about Nutro, i don't use it myself, but all the people i've had contact with, who do use it think it's great.
I feed Burns, i used to feed pedigree for years, but find that my dogs do much better on Burns.
I personally think that any vet will endorse the brand that they sell.

Yep, and now so is James Well beloved and Royal Canin. In order to comply with monopoly rules poedigfree had to sell off one of it's lines, and have dumped Advance, which will shortly be replaced by a new Pedigree Premium product (remname it and repackage it, and you actually have lost nothing, lol).

I think thereason they brought out Royal Canin, is to get a bigger market share in Europe where Royal Canin is popular.

Bakers complete is also a Pedigree one.

the Veterinary line from Waltham have similar special needs diets as do Hills, but also try to feed you expensive food for normal pets.

All my springers have been fed on James Wellbeloved and they look really good, lovely shiney soft coats but I do find it expensive.

Can James WellBeloved be found in Canada under a different brand name? I've never seen it here.

I have never seen Wellbeloved here either (Canada). I just switched mine to Natural Choice lamb and rice small bites, now trying something different.

my two are on Autarky and they love it even the fussy yorkie who would normally look at me as much to say "you actually expect me to eat that?" now she wolfs it down, but then again that could be cos she knows if she doesn't it wont be there long with jessie around ;-) we dont call her lard arse for nothing ;-)
