Hi All,

Murphy loves his chicken wings - which I now wallop with a meat tenderiser before he eats them - seems to work well. He also likes pork ribs.
However, he's not so keen on minced chicken and veggies and this is how I was trying to get him to eat some veggies. He will eat them raw and whole which is okay but he's not getting the goodness from them.

Any suggestions?

Ruth:)

Have you tried mixing it with a raw egg (shell and all) ?

Hi Daisy,

That was quick:)

He does have egg in goats milk for supper some night - minus the shell but I can try it with the veggies.
I used to give Sonny whole raw egg but somehow he seemed to be more of a dustbin than Murphy - even though he's a lab:D
He does seem to be turning his nose up at a few things. I know they don't eat as much in terms of quantities on raw food but it seems strange as when we first had him, he practically attacked his bowl at every mealtime. He's much more laid back about it now. Perhaps I just need to feed him three times a day now. He's 10 weeks old.

Have you tried minced beef? It smells more interesting than chicken and might be enough to entice him. :-)

Can you feel his ribs? If not, he may not need so much food per day. I think I would stick to 4 meals a day for a little while longer, though, but maybe adjust the quantities if he is looking quite round. It is hard to know what to say when you can't see the puppy. :D

Hi Monty's mum,

I can feel Murphy's ribs but he's certainly not a skinny puppy!
He weighs about 10.5 kgs at the moment.

He's got lamb dinner from Prize Choice tomorrow so we'll see what he makes of that!:-)

Ruth,
They all have their likes and dislikes, Una won't eat kidney she sucks the veg off and drops them beside her dish. Cava isn't fond of fish, he will eat whole mackerel or sardines/pilchards but turns his nose up at white fish. As long as you give him variety he'll be fine.

I would mix the veg with raw minced Tripe. It is smely and few dogs can resist it. A lot of the older breeders used to feed just tripe and biscuit.

Hi Brainless,

I'm afraid that I just can't stomach the smell of tripe! I can cope with liver, heart, kidney but tripe........yuk!!
Murphy will have to miss out on that one:)

i heard that when feeding a dog raw meat it has to get boiled for 5 minutes first, is this true or can you just give it to them straight from the butchers? thanks for the help

As long as it's "human grade" meat from the butcher, and not knacker meat from some dubious source, straight raw, no hotter than blood heat (ie like a fresh kill!). Cooking it defeats the object of feeding it raw. :-)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Shanka

If you boil raw meat for 5 minutes then it will no longer be raw meat! My dogs are fed human grade raw meat apart from the tripe obviously and do very well on it. years ago I used to feed dog mince (a mixture of allsorts) from our butcher which was not passed for human consumption but the dogs all thrived on it.
