Does anyone know where I can buy this from in bulk, i.e anything larger than the daft packets from petshops. My dogs have developed a passion for this stuff. I know its cat food but they love anything fishy. I have to buy the little packets from pets at home but with 3 mals it does not last 5 minutes and is costing me a fortune.

Don't know if it's current, but you could try here?

HTH,

M.

Edit: just read it properly, that might be a bit too much bulk!!

Have you tried Burns Ocean Bites? The fish is blue whiting - larger than whitebait but honks as much and can be used for cats and dogs. The packs are 200 gms and rather expensive [£3.45] but mine has lasted a while because one piece gets chewed on for at least 5 minutes. You could probably do a deal on bulk if you call them.
Have a look at the website - http://www.burns-pet-nutrition.co.uk/products.html#treats

Hi,
The Ocean Bites are excellent, the dogs adore them...but lasting 5 minutes? I wish!!! Two bites and they're gone!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

ok I lied, maybe it's 4 minutes - including the time spent sniffing, tossing them around the room until led back to mat, gnawing loudly and trying to get another one out of me  I thought corgis were meant to eat with a knife and fork...

No, that's only the Royal Corgis, Cissy....:D

yes, this one is definitely a Revolutionary though I will have to teach him some table manners when we go to France in June or he won't be able to sit in restaurants with all the coiffed poodles wearing bibs ;-)
[AND totally digressing from whitebait but those Royal Corgis are a bit cheeky too - a friend of mine who worked for the Queen Mum was about to be given his choice of a lab or a corgi. He was sitting with her at the Palace when a corgi waddled into the room and did a poo on the carpet; QM totally ignored it while a footman quietly came in with a dustpan to whisk it away. My friend chose the lab - tut!]

Other query would be whether you have any oriental-type food stores/markets nearby? You might well find them a good source of dried fish of some sort?

I bought some spratts an Tesco today ...I gave Hudson one ....he usually LOVES fish ...he sniffed at it and then looked at me. So I decided to put it IN his brekkie .....In went the raw meat ....then the sprat ....then the biscuits ...then the pilchards in tomato sauce ...

A few minutes later ....there was Hudsons bowl licked spotless ....and a very small pathetic looking sprat sitting ON the kitchen floor next to the bowl ;-)

I've just bought some spatts from Asda - actually, they were small, more like whitebait, but only £1 a lb old money. We had some for our supper ourselves, then microwaved some for the dogs, and they've gone crackers over them.
Maybe if I sort of super-microwaved them they would turn into dried whitebait?

I was wondering whether to put the spratts onto a baking tray and shove them into the oven on a very low heat for a few hours ....might try it (still think Hudson is following his masters voice tho - *I don't eat ANYTHING with eyes!*) :D

I have just bought a packet of dates on Jacquies advice to bait the dogs with. Rosie and Jasmine spat them out across the room and Floyd just mouthed them and dropped them. Don't listen to a word that woman says! Now I've got a find a recipie for date cake and cakes for me come in packets, nicely wrapped on supermarket shelves. :-)

I know this is a fairly old topic, but why don't you try your local fishmongers or nearest fishmarket?
I feed my dogs herring eggs (which are in long strips) they absolutely devour them they do smell abit wiffy though when you blanche them in hot water, so i put them in a dog bowl outside & pour hot water on, no smell & dogs satisfied:)
My husbands friend is a fisherman so we have no problem getting whitebait as it is usually just thrown overboard to the seagulls
