Hi all...
Need some help.
My 10 year old dog, a border collie x terrier of some description, is very thin.
I've just inherited him and don't know much about his history...whether he's always been this thin, what he's been fed on etc.
I have put him onto the diet that my dogs are on (Dr John Gold) which is for working dogs, in the hope that, as he isn't as active as my others he may put on weight. He certainly hasn't lost any, and his coat, which was awful has improved greatly. But I still think he's too thin.
I don't really want to change his food again, because I know that he is prone to colitis, and he's doing well on the Dr John, but is there anything I can add to his food to help him to put on just a little bit of weight?
Thanks...
Lisa

Has he been wormed?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Hiya jean...
Yes, he's been wormed, 2 weeks ago.

the only food that has ever put even an ounce on my springer with dodgy digestion is the Autarky brand. I couldn't recommend it highly enough - cheap, goes down well and comes out respectably too!
just add some fats to his feed an ounce of suet per day is good.i also find pet mince from the butcher (the fatty stuff) added to the feed works too.

Some dogs are naturally thin (like skinny people) and no amount of extras will gain weight. Extra food just pushes straight through. If they can put on weight then adding pasta to a diet can bulk up nicely and pointer cob biscuits are also excellent.
