Why is it that as soon as the weather warms up, I keep getting shocks

from my car every time I get out of it?

Me too Jean ..except from OUR car and not yours :D ..I also get shocks from dogs , metal handrails , pushchair handles ..well ..more or less anything. Stephen says it is to do with the warm air heating up this that and the other ...something scientific ..I reckon its cos I have an electric personality :D

We must all have sparkling personalities - I'm the same! I have to shut the car door with my elbow.

Coo, I thought I was the only one :D I can't go to Boots the Chemist either! Jeff's always complaining about me giving him shocks too (no comment :D )
BTW Jgenie, how did the op go?
Joan

Hi Joan,
After only 4 days I'm (almost) off the painkillers and have developed a fastish hobble. Husband has learnt how to plug in the vacuum and work the washing machine (he manages £million machines at work - household appliances
shouldn't be that daunting!)
The dogs have been extraordinary - rather than bounce and leap at me they grin and sidle close for a cuddle; they seem to know I'm a tad fragile.
Off to see James Taylor tomorrow for a Mother's Day present - wheeeaayyyy!!! :D
Edit: PS - Thanks to all staff at Warwick Hospital - they were so kind to the gibbering wreck (ME!)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Glad to hear everything went okay.
Joan

I used to get trouble with that too, until I started driving landies (aluminium!)

It's mostly women that have electric shocks from cars.......it's God's way of telling them not to drive!!!!!
(from Karen's better half, but don't tell her)

But it happens if I'm a passenger, too! And I
refuse to be told to stay at home!!! :D :D

te he he Im also getting and giving electric shocks. Got hubby a beauty on his lips one day. Now thats electifying...
I thought it was just the new car giving me shocks, I'm sure I didn't get so many off the old one!
I get shocks off the vacuum cleaner, my dogs, the car, every time I make a hospital bed (which is a lot). I once went to kiss hubby and got a shock off him. Sometimes its so bad that I actually see a spark. It must be my electrifying personality.

The way to avoid static shocks is to take all your clothes off, this will stop it. :d

I know it's a little warmer at the moment but I don't think it will EVER be that warm for me to cause a public riot! Instead of MY hair standing on end from the static shocks, the neighbours' would probably fall out

Sorry, I've been getting terrible electric shocks from my car too an Astra. Was also at work last week, (med. sec.) and I push a metal trolley around with notes in it and a man lifted the trolley up into the lift because the left wasn't level and he got a really bad electric shock from the trolley!!!
IS there any reason for this, I wd. love to know as it's driving me around the bend.

Its mainly artificial fibers and plastic fault you shuffle around in the car seat etc and buils up charge, when you get out of the car you are chaged (not only by the police) and ZAP when you touch something metal. As a wimp when I get out of the car I close the car dor with my elbow, that dischages the static and you can touch the car with out fear.
You can get an 'Earth Strap' from car shops to sort out car.
But not sure if you could attach one to your.............dog/vaccum cleaner/husband.
May be fun trying though??????
I vacuum wearing rubber boots to avoid shocks

Jean, I think it has something to do with lack of moisture in the skin. I never had a problem until I spent some time in Winter in Indianapolis in the US. The climate is so dry it shrivels everything up!!. Therefore the drier/warmer it is, the more we are affected by static electricity. Friends I know who live in the US used to put a very strong moisturiser into an old pair of socks and then wear them overnight - they said this cured it but I have never tried it. Good luck.

But I don't touch the car with my feet

. I found over the last couple of days that if I touch the car
before I get out of it, that it happens much less often. Perhaps I am "earthing" myself on the car somehow?
