The 2 pups I have and 2 older dogs seem happy enough with the BARF diet, fed for the last 3 months or so.Sadly,my bitch is showing bad signs of alopecia, possibly alopecia x.She loves the new diet, but is it possible that the supplements arent catering for her hormones? The fur hasnt just dropped out,she has scratched and pulled it out,all since I stopped her biscuit allowance completely. She is 6 years old and has had one phantom pregnancy and no litters. She will hopefully be spayed next month.Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Hi, I had the same problem with one of my dogs. All 3 were fed on Barf, which they loved. But I dont think that was getting the right balance of vitamins and oils. So, I chickened out... excuse the pun. And now give them chicken wings at the weekend and complete during the week. I must say that after only a few weeks my dog had grown a nice healthy and shiny coat. whereas on the Barf it was very dry and scaly. Glad I am not the only one to have this problem!!!

Hi there,

How do you get your dogs to eat the complete?
Murphy is raw fed - not totally 'barfed' as I use the AMP meats with veggies added and he has chicken wings, etc. I know that at times I could do with him eating complete but he has to be really hungry before he'll eat it.
True barf feeding can be quite tricky to get right and the books do help. I had to do a lot of reading before I felt right about it but so far Murph's doing well.

Hi, I totally agree with Ruth.
I tried to do it just by reading other peoples experiences, but had to buy the book to do it successfully. Mungo is doing fab on it!

HI,
When i first started to raw feed my dogs, i noticed for a short while, they did get a bit more scratchy and flaky. I made sure i added some olive oil to the diet, and i think it was a combination of not enough oils, and the fact that they were probably getting rid of the accumulated toxins in their systems.
Also, a good thing to do is make sure they are getting some oily fish in the diet, and that the range of foods offered is pretty wide, including the vegetables, as these provide a lot of the minerals and vitamins needed.
