Please help me!
I have a 11 month old collie named Bailey. He is a delightful boy! I am new to this forum and have a question I desperately need help with...

Bailey will not eat. The most he consumed is a half a handful a day! He has had almost every dog food on the planet! I leave his bowl down all of time. Bailey even accompanies me to the office very day where he had a food bowl that is always full. I have purchased everything that the vet has suggested and even have gone as far as to mix in cottage cheese and other goodies just to simply get him to eat! The problem is that because he refuses to eat he is now dropping weight fast. I have talked with the vet and he just tells me to try another food and that when he gets hungry enough he will eventually eat. This puppy was amazingly "puppy fat" before Christmas but since then has started starving himself! He will not eat treats either. It has gotten so bad that my work mates are calling him an "anorexic super model collie." I am frustrated and worried about his health. The only time I can get him to eat is if I sit on the floor with him and quitely wait for him eat. If I make any movements at all he simply follows me about the house or the office. What is this? What can I do to get him to eat? I have changed the bowls from ceramic, to metal, to plates, etc. I had thought that maybe something has him scared. I have even moved the bowls to different parts of the house, but no luck. This has all begun since Christmas. Please someone suggest something to do! The vet assures me he will grow out of it and will not starve himself to death, but my "Mom" mind still worries over his weight drop.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
What was he eating before, when he was fat before Christmas? Has the vet checked his teeth? If his mouth is sore that could put him off. A liver function blood test might be a good idea too.

It may be that with food available all the time it has lost its value to him. Try not to worry (easy to say, I know) but your stress will transfer to him and worry him. Put his food down, sit beside him and read a book or something. Just ignore him and hopefully he'll get on with it. Then after 15 minutes (unless he's actually eating) pick up his bowl and take it away. Do this at breakfast, lunch and tea. With luck that may be enough to give food back its excitement.

Good luck.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Hi,
I agree totally with the above. My last dog did this to me too so I can sympathise, providing that the vet has checked for any probs or illnesses, you could also try him on brewers yeast tablets daily for a few weeks, my father suggested this when I was so worried about my dog and it worked, he started eating and never looked back.
Hope this helps.
