I am looking to buy a rhodesian ridgeback puppy somewhere in the london area or there abouts. I would appreciate any information where I can legitimately buy one from a breeder or "respected" pet shop.
Also Does anyone know anything about the reputation of a pet shop called "East London Puppies"

Have a look at our Rhodesian Ridgeback Breeders list. I am sure that someone there will be able to recommend a breeder or litter to you.

I would strongly advise you not to buy a puppy from ANY pet shop even if it is perceived as "respectable". If you buy a puppy from a pet shop, you will be taking a chance that said puppy has originated from a puppy farm or commercial breeder.You will not be able to see the puppies with their mother.You will not have the 'after sales service' (from a pet shop purchase) eg: indepth breed knowledge and advice. However tempting a pet shop purchase may seem at first, it usually ends in tears.

Many thanks leigh. You have reinforced my fears about pet shop bought puppies, the reason i was even considering was the one I had spoken to "east london puppies" said that it was possible to meet the breeders and the parents of the puppies... but I think I will just hang on for a registered breeder.

Hi,

I do know of 'East London Puppies'.
I know they advertise in London Loot in every issue (every few days).
They have been there as far as I can remember (3 years plus)?
They would have been reported and maybe banned from advertising if they weren't a good kennel. Then again - you have to think why they are breeding. They obviously don't want to breed a bitch to keep a pup for them, it is purely commercial.
The ad says 'we stock every type of puppy there is' and 'importing and exporting'.
It made me cringe. I just hope people have the sense to keep away from these sort of businesses, for that is what they are! The pups obviously won't be socialised etc properly, as they have hundreds there.
Your best bet is to find a caring breeder, and remember, you will probably have to wait, but it is worth it for the right pup.

Thanks mistress for your response. I will heed the advice about petshops - my initial instincts were to steer well clear but desparation was starting to set in. I will hang on for a breeder. Thanks
