Excellent!! My Hubby comes from Sunderland and has been ribbed quite a bit over the past few months, by me!! One of the Headlines in the News of the World read today, SUNDOWNLAND. He's not a happy bunny! :-(

Me, I support my Home town team - Portsmouth - I believe they be being promoted to the Premier League, I wonder who's place they are taking???

Just too much ribbing material - will print off and stick up! :D

No - he is very good about all the ribbing he gets. I printed the article off and he took it in to work with him.

Cheers, Sweep ;-)

:d :d :d Spot on! For any non-believers, just go into Newcastle city centre in the middle winter at night. False tan, bottle blondes and short skirts...no coats in sight. It took me ages to get used to seeing blokes strut about bare chested the moment it gets to 8 degrees.
Us Geordies are hard :d :d
By Claire B (****) [gb] Date 14.04.03 12:53 GMT
Absolutely spot on !! :D I'm a toon army supporter although I held my head in shame on Saturday :-(

Us Geordies NEVER wear coats when out clubbing, we're hard as nails us man :D Anyway if you wear a coat in Newcastle and take it off someone will just nick it  :p
By liberty (*****) Date 14.04.03 15:18 GMT
As a fellow Geordie now living in Sussex; I was always led to believe that you don't buy a new (skimpy) outfit, then cover it up with a coat :D :D

Regards

And if you do take a coat out, that's 60p to put it in the clubs cloakroom.60pence!!!!! Thats half a lager in geordieland. Besides if you go minus the coat you've more chance of having your booze paid for...and you're right, the coat would only get nicked :D

Sounds very familiar; from my youth I may add; too old for all that malarcky now!! :-)

I'm pleased to find another misplaced Sand-dancer on the board! Remember Minchella's ice cream?
I've printed the list out for hubby to take to work. He is a Waalsend born Mag, living in Northumberland but working in Sunderland, and boy does he like to wind them up!

Minchellas Ice-cream; now that really takes me back :D My Dad used to take to their ice-cream parlour when I was knee-high to a grasshopper :D
They made the best ice-cream ever :-) are they still going ?

Course they are!! You can probably remember the one at the botom of Ocean Road, opposite the library (now Museum). There's also one at the Nook which has been there almost as long, and the new one on the prom near Bents Park. My Mum takes my kids sometimes when she has the girls when we go to dog shows. I remember going Down Town when I was 12 or so, my pal Maureen and I used to spend our pocket money, but just keep enough back for a sundae (with monkeys blood of course!)

Well if there is one thing I miss is Dab n Chips with mushy peas and gravy :D Can you hell get mushy peas and gravy in a chippy on the East Coast of Scotland and they have no idea what a dab is eek
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 17.04.03 13:55 GMT
A dab is a small flatfish, like a sole, isn't it?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
By Banger [gb] Date 17.04.03 17:15 GMT
Ahhhh yes am partial to a Minchellas sundae myself. We now have one just a few yards away from us at Whitburn, so its a quick walk with Max for some ice cream. :-)

Please dont mention the word 'relegation'. eek
By liberty (*****) Date 17.04.03 21:48 GMT
Hi Banger :-)

Good to hear you've got a minchellas too! :D :D

I think I used to go to riding school in Whitburn, Lizard Lane seems to ring a bell, but after all this time I could be totally wrong :-)

By Banger [gb] Date 17.04.03 23:03 GMT
Yes Lizard Lane is correct liberty :-)
By Claire B (****) [gb] Date 18.04.03 10:08 GMT
Hi JG

A dab is a slice of potato then fish (usually cod) then another slice of potato coated in batter and fried. MMMMmmmmmmmm !! :D
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 18.04.03 10:15 GMT
Sounds good! :-)

(But a dab is a small flatfish - no wonder people get confused!)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
By Claire B (****) [gb] Date 18.04.03 10:33 GMT
LOL JG. I didn't know that it was a small fish :D Don't think the chippy's up ere do either
By bob (***) [gb] Date 18.04.03 10:43 GMT

Alison
By Pammy [gb] Date 18.04.03 15:57 GMT
or a scallop where I came from:D
By liberty (*****) Date 17.04.03 21:45 GMT
Hi Tallin :-)

Yes it was the one on Ocean Road that we used to go to :D Of course you had to have monkeys blood on, or it wasn't a proper ice-cream. I don't remember the one at the Nook, but I'm having trouble remembering what I did yesterday, never mind *% yrs ago :D

It's good to see there are so many Geordies/sand-dancers etc on this site; I must go back to S/Shields one of these days, just to see how much it's changed, any excuse to stuff my face with good old northern scran!!! :-)
