Hi

My 5 1/2 month pup is teething, and has already lost quite a few.

My question is his gums often Bleed. Is this normal when there teething?

Thanx
Claire

I don't quite understand. His gums will bleed where the teeth come out (so did yours and mine!) - or do you mean generally bleeding?

My gums bled when my milk teeth wobbled before they came out - I should think it's the same with him!

Hi Angel,

Tweetie (rubber squeaky chick) was often bloody around his little neck when my Cairn was teething. Added sort of a realistic note to play time when Abby ran after Tweetie and proceeded to kill him as he squeaked for mercy.

on the subject of teething...I have a 9 week old Staff, he is lovely and is starting to learn basic commands such as sit, gently and of course NO. He also responds when we call his name, however I know Staffs can lock their jaw, and this is something that happens with him from time to time and it is not on purpose, but how to I teach him not to lock his jaw/release? He is not biting my partner or myself anymore, however my colleagues at work often get a nip or their trousers/shoes attacked, what is the best way to tackle this? he has lots of toys and chews etc. I know he is only a baby and it is natural for him to bite just about everything, but I just wondered if there are some helpful tips?

when you say he "locks his jaw" - do you mean he keeps his mouth firmly closed and wont open to drop whatever he has or do you mean something else . confused
My Staffy who is 8 months has never locked his jaw and neither did my previous Staffy .
The biting is perfectly normal for whatever breed of pup so dont worry about that . You have to be consistant about teling him "NO" when he bits , even with other people . You must ensure they tell him the same . It can hurt so I sympathise . It will probably go on for a little while yet so dont worry but they do eventually grw out of it

Yes I mean: he keeps his mouth firmly closed and wont open to drop whatever he has; I was told it was called lock jaw?!?

Thanks!
