Can anyone tell me why people telephone for information or directions to the kennels or other peoples phone numbers and then say hang on while I find a pen!!! it drives me mad, just had someone on for a phone number and left me hanging on while he disappeared for five minutes, makes me mad
glenys
I keep a pen and pad beside the phone so that's not one of my bad habits. Unfortunatly with all that organisation I can never find my glasses!
Best wishes, John
I'm a bit of a saint, so I don't really have any pet hates.
But if I did, it would be people who 'CANT FIND THEIR GLASSES'.

:O
Dam, where did I put my hearing aid.

another Pet Hate: people who carry little dogs around and dont let them walk.As a staunch Labrador person some years ago I went to a breeders house and she had a maltese puppy who I fell in love with I bought him then wondered how he would cope with life in a multi Labrador home I neednt have worried Bobby is eleven now and still walks for miles a day in the wood with my Labs in fact he thinks he is a lab,no teeth left but a happy little souls so stop carrying those little dogs they love to walk!!! by the way does anyone know what the average age for a maltese is?
glenys
Not sure of age but would say about 14/15.
I agree about hating toy dogs being carried all the time. I have 7 Griffs and they walk everywhere and are quite at home with big dogs.

Take the rough with the smooth

me too Leigh, and working hounds too!
I will make an exception for whippets!

I hate seeing all these working and sporting dogs being wheeled into sjows in their Trollies! How do these people expect their dog to move soundly when it hasn't even stretched its legs before going in the ring, and I don't mean walkling from bench to ring! A friend of mine now deceased always walked her 6 finnish Spitz round the carpark or showground before benching them, they also were well behaved on their benches!

OK SAM are you wanting a fight? :D
Whippets DO NOT need coats!!!!!!!! Final End Fullstop
Despite the people you see with endless whippets with matching coats they DO NOT need them. Whippets are hunting dogs and are as hardy as any other hunting breed. It is a fallacy that they are 'nesh', they shiver as part of their normal characteristics regardless of temperature. It is what is called 'Getting a Dither On' which is misread by a lot of people. Our dogs are kenneled outside all year round and do not have coats other than their own and we are often told how wonderful their natural coats are!
This is a subject I feel very strongly about.
Along with dogs being carried OR rolled into shows in cages. Dogs have legs to walk with and coats to keep them warm and dry. Let them use what they were born with.
I have had show whippets for 25 years and can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times they have been coated, and these occassions were over 15 years ago!!!!!!! The ONLY POSSIBLE reason would be when going to a show AND they had a late bath on the morning of the show AND it was raining AND a gale was blowing AND there was a long walk eg NEC.

That told you Sam ! lol

Leigh

ooops sorry to set you off longdog!!!!!
I was thinking more of the ones I see coursing & working to be honest, the owners tend to keep a coat on them to keep them warm before they run.........bit like athletes wearing a track suit until they get in the blocks...keeps their muscles warm etc rather than running "cold". Anyway, thats what I was intending, so please don't take offence.......my friend has 8 whippets for working and they are little toughies, but always wear coats prior to a coursing meet. So do the bigger greyhounds for the same reason!
OK in that case, Sam, I'll let you off!!
I can only agree in keeping the dog warm at meets
But so many show owners routinely coat their dogs regardless of the conditions.
I have also heard from breeders who refuse to sell pups to anyone who doesn't coat the dogs.
If you surf you will see photos of whippets in Sweden and Norway uncoated and loving the snow and ice.
They are a hardy breed but do 'shiver' a lot, which is commonly mistaken for being cold.
:D :D :D

glad we're still friends!:p
