Hi Caitlin and all
When posting found (or missing) dogs could you possibly give a little more information so that if their owners are looking they would have a good chance of recognising their dog?
eg
Height at withers
Colour and markings, length and texture (short, closelying, wiry, long, etc)
Sex (and if castrated)
Any obvious scars or identifying marks
Tattoo / Microchip
Build and if over or under weight
State of paws - dogs that have travelled a long way are often damaged
Where and when the dog was found
Breed it most resembles - if any remembering that not everyone knows their dog breeds - inlcuding many dog wardens
Anything else you can think of !
For lost dogs the information can be more detailed as the owners know their dog much better - information on the dog rather than how much the family are missing them is also useful - I appreciate this sounds unsympathetic but we need the information so that the dog has the best chance of being recognised.
TIA

Would love to .... will try to negotiate from the kennels where dogs kept.! Most of dogs I put on here I have never seen ...
Hi Caitlin
It would be appreciated, the descriptions given recently are so vague that it would be difficult for those people who have lost their dogs to recognise them or for those of us who maintain lists of missing dogs to relate them to anything - as you have seen Lurcherlass goes though this list as do others.
TIA

Sorry ... it is just difficult for me to get very specific details. Sometimes I have gone to look at a dog that has been described to me on telephone and it is nothing like the dog I imagine ... you know that feeling... like it is a whippet ... and it is a jack russel cross etc etc.. But I will do better .... even if it means carrying a tape measure ... oh and someone help me out here .. I love dogs but what are withers???
Withers = highest point of the shoulders, if you run your hands down a dogs neck and just onto its back you will feel the top of the shoulder blades - this is the withers - it is also the point at which horses are measured
