thanks lara, only problem now is tess has just come into season so will have to put it off for a bit now, although at what age can they start working trials i know jack is too young at eight months to do agility.

Working Trials like agility can only be competed in when your dog is 18 months old. This is because growth plates in big dogs do not close sometimes until then and in trials the jumps are a tad more exacting. 3ft clear, 9ft long and a 6ft scale which has to be negotiated twice.

You can start training for trials from 7 weeks with sendaways etc just like you can for any discipline. Working Trials Monthly is the monthly magazine for triallists and is on the web and Working Trials UK, also on the web, has a list of society contact one of which will no doubt be in your area. If you want to do trials the best thing is to go visit one and watch so that you have a clear understanding of the work involved in training. It is a great sport but as someone once said, has all the spectator appeal of underwater chess! HTH
