Born Dec 1989, Bracken, a collie X spaniel, came into our lives as an 8 week old puppy alongside her brother Bandit. Over nearly fourteen years, she's given us so much pleasure. A born bossy boots, she'd put any dog in their place - even the Mals :-) Two weeks ago she was running through the sea on holiday and rounding us all up (that was the collie bit).

This morning, after a rapid downhill trend, we sent her on her way across Rainbow Bridge. Now out of pain and running in the fields of time - another star is born tonight.

Loving you and missing you so much darling.

awwww <<big hugs to you>>
I had to let my gorgeous girl go last week after 12 perfect years together. She wasn't just my friend, but a 'nanny' to the kids when they were little. She really had human tendancie's.
I know exactly how you are feeling, but you need to feel proud of yourself for helping her on her way. We are left with the heartbreak after our dog's leave and the only consolation we have, is that we thought of THEIR needs above ours.
Time IS a great healer. We planted a pretty bush in our garden in Tess's memory, and I've told all the kids that they can go to bush when they miss her or just want to think about her.
<<love to you and your family>>

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for their good wishes. Sorry it's taken so long! I couldn't face looking at the posts until now.

I've been looking at the photos I took on holiday (most of them were of the dogs) and I can see Bracken having so much fun. I'm grateful that the end was quick and although I can say it was the hardest decision I've ever had to make, I know it was the right one. It's nice to know that there are people out there who understand the loss of a furry family member.

Thanks :-)

So sorry - Rainbow Bridge is truly the MOST wonderful place so full of those we have loved and lost. My dear friend Paula who was editor of PetDogs magazine died in tragic circumstances almost ten years ago and Rainbow Bridge was her epitaph, we like to think that 'auntie' Paula is taking care of all our's until we join her.

God bless those who grieve - dogs and human

Joan, So sorry for the loss of Bracken.....

Alice
I'm so glad you have mentioned Paula. I have wondered for quite a while if you were the "Alice" that Paula told me she'd had the pups from, after her beloved Fudge. I wrote a couple of bits for Paula's mag in the years before she sadly died, and I often think of her. (We used to talk "cavaliers" on the phone.)

When Paula died, The Rainbow Bridge was printed in the magazine, and it was the first time I had ever seen it. My husband had it written in calligraphy, and framed in a 3 ft x 2 ft frame, and it's hung over my bath ever since.

Since then, I've lost dogs and cats, and I know they are all having fun at The Rainbow Bridge.

Message for Sami

Thanks for the message you posted - a contact with those who knew and loved Paula is special - would you like to contact me again (see my contact details). I still have my darling Fleur who was Clover's sister and we have an extra special bond, it was the babies first birthday the day Paula died and I just knew something was wrong when she hadn't replied to our puppy party invite but could never have known just how wrong. I still miss her so much it will be ten years in January.
