Yesterday we took Laddie to a specialist in Seville, he had xrays & a biopsy. There was a lot of air in his muscle & that caused the swelling, not his bones. Could have been infection or tumour.
When he first started limping few wks back I instictivley knew I was going to lose him, he died at 8.30 last night a few hrs after we got back from Seville.
Sorry not been able to post to you who`ve lost your dogs, I just couldn`t.

Christine.

The Power of the Dog

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Thank you everyone for the hugs & thoughts. Someone described it to me as having a Laddie shaped hole in my heart & that made me smile, well he was a big boy so it`s a big hole right now but I`ve got lots memories of happy times & things we did and even tho he`s an angel now there were times when he was a little imp here I can tell you! to fill it to the top & I won`t feel so empty.

I miss him. xxxxx

As sad as it was tonight talking to Christine about laddie ,I still had to laugh when she said he was rogue right up to the end
How he swiped a full loaf of bread from the counter a few days ago and also went and tried to mate Gwen.
What a boyo he was ,I can see why he was so very much in Christines Heart ,he made sure he was
She will always have her memories of Laddie .

Laddie
6/5/97 6/9/03

Loss of a dear dog, Laddie.

Touch him with a gentle finger,
feel the warmth within your heart
love like that is sweet emotion
even though you had to part.
Time can take away the sadness
not the feelings that you had,
that you had them oh so joyous
a legacy to make you glad.
What are we without the memories
what are we without the grief?
Not for us lack of emotion
blessed though, 'his' sweet relief.
Now he shares his makers heaven
'His' great love is now his wealth,
as he presses close beside Him
young again restored to health.
Now he smiles at you with gladness
and if he spoke I'm sure he'd say
bless you dearest earthly angel
for sending me upon my way.
God allotted me my life span
and he gave me you, just on loan,
then he saw my time was over
and in His goodness called me home.
Now I wait till you can join me
I walk so proud no longer lame
and when my God shall want to call you
then we two shall meet again.
