I was hoping that someone or others out there may be able to give me some advice about showing, showing Staffordshire Bull Terriers, what is involved, experienced input as to my pups potential as photo's are avalible, although he is very young I understand because of growing and developing physically nothing is certain until he becomes a lot older, although wanted to find out all nessarssary now, in order to decided to enter for showing events or not. I have checked out the Standard exspected for my breed and I claim to be no exspert, although can see his potential and seems at the moment to have the signs of a high scoring dog, however I may be wrong and that's why needing some input....from those more experienced in the matter....and what I should be doing if seriously thinking about showing...

Hi Daniel & Charlie
My advice to you would be to firstly find a Ringcraft class in your local area. By joing this sort of class you will be able to go through the motions of Showing Charlie, learning how to walk him and stand him. He will also get used to different people going over him ie checking his teeth and making sure that he is entire ie two dangly bits, they also look at the health of the dog and his temperament, which is very important in a Staffie.
You could also ask your Breeder what they think of Charlie and they maybe able to give you some tips.
Good luck with him and enjoy it.

Hi Danny
Nice to hear from you again. Is Charlie KC Registered? If not, then you be limited in what shows you can enter him in. You could go for exemption shows, but I find they are very few and far between. If he is registered then you can go for any show you like. I would definitely talk to the breeder and get their opinion. Try to find out of there are any shows in your area where Staffies are entered and go and have a look to see how it all works etc and find a ringcraft class like Derryn has said.
Ringcraft will show you how to stand and walk with Charlie, it'll also give you an idea if it is going to be something both you and charlie enjoy. One of the big things I have noticed at shows tho is how little the breed standard seems to be applied, to my breed anyway!! So even if Charlie does not seem to match up to the standard, it does not necessarily mean that he won't do well at shows. It all depends on what the judge of the day is looking for.
I've only recently started showing my oldest boy and the baby is now just six months old and due out at the end of the month. It's so absorbing and providing you can take the failures - boo hoo(VBG) then you can have a great time. Watch out tho - it can become very expensive. The fees for shows vary so much but an open show will usually cost you a minimum of £5 to enter. Champ shows - much more costly.
Give it a go - and enjoy

I'm pretty confident he is gonna be of the right standard and spoke to the breeder about showing and the champions is the line and around 11 I think, so a good line.....I have managed to find details of handling showing classess but one's in Kent to far away, the other Dagenham to far and the other is Wandsworth which is a major trek across London from one side to the other corner via tubes and bus.
Mind you if not I will travel, as I suppose that is commitment needed to show and train for shows.
Cheers for advice and help Guyz....charlie a bit grey today, not feeling very bright, so let him sleep on bed as treat.

and yes I wouldn't get a staffie pup if it didn't have papers

did you manage to get the nipping stopped. or is he still at it, are his teeth in a scissor bite ,they'll need to be if you're thinking of showing him/
The nipping has calmed down and is more so done in play rather than all the time, he's getting an understanding that he's hurting as well and generally is better I think....but he does have odd mad "full moon" hours where he runs around the flat knocking everything over and try stopping him and he forget with excitement and gets alittle over board and bites with aim to hurt....but it's just his breed...he plays very rough.
