Another post asked the question about how a breeder could know if a dog carried three colors (the dog in question is a Lab).
VetGen in the US has been doing great work in not only identifying disease carriers, but also in doing research and identification into color carriers also. They have a wonderful color prediction chart for
Labs, as well as being able to pinpoint carrier colors through DNA. They have also identified the color gene in other breeds: American Cocker Spaniels, Boxer, Curly-Coated Retriever, Dachshund, Dobermans, Flat Coated Retriever, Great Dane, Labrador Retrievers, Poodles (all varieties), Pomeranian, Scottish Terrier, and Whippet.
They are also doing
research into other breeds for a variety of diseases such as early onset or juvenille cataracts, canine retina atrophy, hip dysplasia, inherited epilepsy, and vonWillebrand's Disease.
I know that the UK DNA testing is available for a variety of markers and breeds. When I did a comparison though, I found that the US firm had more available so I thought I'd pass along the info.
