Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Labrador off her food :(

MB who is 13 months has been off her food now for going on two weeks.

We put it down to having the new addition Cassie who we adopted a few weeks ago.We thought that the balance may have been upset and her routine had changed so it had put her off eating as instead of all sticking to their own bowl there has been a lot of butting in and trying to eat each others.

To stop this we have reverted back to normal routine and feeding Cassie else where to see if all settles down but not even with extra nice things to entice her to eat she is just taking a few mouthfuls and then she leaves it.

She has never been a fussy eater and if a Lab goes off her food then it is normally time to start worrying.

I will take her to the vets but any other ideas in the mean time.

No other signs of illness that we have seen in her.

Thanks

Lucy

Sorry Lucy,

Not got an answer but it could be just the unsettlement , however go with your own instinct re the vets.

Hope she picks up shortly..

Give MB a hug from me Lucy. I hope the vet finds nothing wrong and that he can advise you. :-) How does she interact with Cassie when they aren't eating? That might give you a clue as to whether Cassie's arrival is the cause.

Hi Lucy, maybe she feels her nose has been put out of joint & she`s feeling a bit stressed with the new addition & change to her routine. As you say it is unusual for them to go off their food so a check up with the vet is a good idea, if nothing else it will put your mind at rest. Has she lost any weight? If everything is ok healthwise can you feed them within eyesight of each other with someone by the side of each of them making sure they eat from their own bowls, a lot of times with a fussy eater when it sees another dog eating it encourages them to eat & they forget all about being fussy :-)

Hmmmm I have just tried my last trump card and it seems to have worked but will wait a few days to see if it is just because she is starved !!

I have put all the bowls at opposite poles of the two rooms and put half a carton of Nature Diet in her JWB and she seems happy having a good scoff this morning and is standing her ground and not moving away when any of them approach her.

The one thing I had noticed is that she has always been very interested in Mins bowl who is normally full of Nature diet and so I think I may have found the answer !! :-)

Bowl has just been licked clean ! She is not as stupid as she looks !! They can bend us round our little fingers can't they !! :D

I am still going to take her for a check up just to make sure we are not missing anything !

A thing I forgot to mention here is that Moose has been in and out of season and MB has been bonking her quite a lot which I wonder as well could be an reason to why we are having problems, her hormones are making her act a bit peculiar ?

I just wonder that all the hormones flying about has upset the apple cart !

Thanks Everyone

Lucy

Glad she is feeling better, Lucy! Hope it continues. Harry and Piglet have been off their food a bit the past few days, and you're not that far from us - maybe there's a bug around? Don't they make us worry - I wonder why we keep doing it!

Could well be as us two legged animals in this house have all been off colour for the past few weeks !

We carry on doing it cause we love their little paws to death and don't they know it ! :D

How is Beattie getting on ?

Lucy,

I am convinced they know how to wind us up.. clever sods.

My Daisy ( 7 months) is just having her first season well I think she has PMT she is acting so strange. this morning my cat came in and as usual all the dogs run and like the cat to death we little Daisy was growling at all the others protecting the cat.. scratch head LOL she is usually the worst offender..

I don't know.

Good luck with her but sounds like the food did the trick..

My two legged lot have been fluey too - maybe it's affecting the dogs as well? Coincidence? I'm not sure - the symptoms are similar.

Beattie's had her last antibiotic tablet, so we should know in the next 48 hours how serious this is likely to be. In herself she's fine now, so that's a blessing!
