We will be upgrading the forum software shortly (in about 10 minutes). With a bit of luck the site will only be unavailable for less than 30 minutes.
By Admin (Administrator) [gb] Date 27.11.03 23:32 GMT
The upgrade is now complete.
By Melodysk (Moderator) [gb] Date 28.11.03 08:04 GMT
I really like the new look forum on the whole ..except now Active Topics appears to be spread over 3 pages is there a trick to getting them all on one page do you know? ...PLUS before you could see which topics you hasnt ACTUALLY looked at , whereas now just viewing that page of Active Topics results in all the topics getting a red tick on the yellow box

The links for the next page were better at the bottom of the active topics.  Now I have to scroll back up to change page. :-(  It's better on the topic pages now though as there are links top and bottom. :-) You can skip to the new pages without scrolling down.

On the whole it's a thumbs up. Well done. :-)

Me too, Carolyn. I've emailed Admin, and hope that our settings can be changed to get the old efficiency we were used to. I'll PM you when I hear...

Admin

Since the change over I am only getting a few messages and at the bottom it is saying
Additional new or unread posts have been cut off to limit page length.

Can you help me pleaseeeeee :-(

I can tell you what MY settings are and then if you change yours over maybe it will fix the problem Carolyn?

Go to your options page and look at the DISPLAY PREFERENCES

Then I have got:

ENGLISH
GMT
VERDANA
0
80
13
3
-2
50
25

Then a tick by Show Table Borders
Tick by the next one
Blank box
Tick
Blank box

See if that makes a difference..open another window so you can make changes in your options whilst reading this post ;-)

I've done all that, and I'm still getting the same problem as Carolyn. :-(

First I read what comes up as "New", then I have to go onto this new "Unread" section several times. I feel glum. :-(

No matter what I do, I can't get to read all the new posts. So if anyone asks me anything, and I don't reply, it's because you've got lost in the maze between, New, Unread, and Mark Old (aka the unholy lovechild of L.Parkins and Max Users. I knew they'd gone too quiet...)

I find Active Topics too slow, and I've never liked having to scroll down through all the rest of the thread just to find the new posts. Two clicks and long waits for each post, instead of one click for the whole lot. :-(

Don't get me wrong, I think the PM bit is a great improvement, but the rest is a time-consuming muddle, I'm afraid.

JG

Part of the new look makes active threads easier to use.  It automatically goes straight to the new posts on any thread.

I think thats a great improvement as like you I find reading and scrolling through the whole thread a pain.

Jayne

ps I love the part where you can cut out replies to a post and find out who they are replying to.

20 posts....that's just 20 posts...then 20 different one on unread posts...then all of them ticked in active topics....it's taken about 7 attempts to find this thread...I knew you'd be talking about it somewhere ;-)

I didn't mind if I only logged in after tea or having been away that 'additional posts have been....etc' but now 20 posts!!!!!

I have never liked active topics....might try it, but then again

love the to do list though ;-)
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 28.11.03 20:50 GMT
Hi Jayne,
I'm missing out then :-( My "Active Topics" starts at the top of the thread just as before... :-( And with a 5 second pause after every page change ...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

Aww sorry JG thats how mine is working.

I click on Active Topics.

Click on the thread I'm interested in and then bingo it scrolls straight down to the first new reply.

Must admit though like Mel I don't like it spread over 3 pages.

I find the "Edit" function almost usless now! I posted a reply then realised there was something else I wanted to say and edited it. When I went to post the edit  it told me that it had "Timed Out" and I had to post the whole thing again!!

It might be ok to time limit the edit function, in fact I think it is a good idea but at the moment it times out far too quickly!

Best wishes, John

whats happening when you click 'active topics' jg?
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 28.11.03 23:06 GMT
I just had 2 in "New Posts", a different one in "Unread" and none of them showed as new in "ActiveTopics" (which was always too slow anyway).

Let's see how it is in the morning. I've had it up to here tonight.

Yep that is what I am finding.  I also found Active topics too slow, and used New Posts before, and then to Help and the link that used to be there so it would know they were read.

Your computer must run really fast to use Active Topics! Mine takes at least 5 seconds to change 'pages', soon Active Topics I can only read about 5 posts a minute, whereas on New Posts I can scroll through them all and read about 15 or 20 in a minute.

But now I can't get more than 25 posts at a time. Then the problem is trying to find the rest, because they'll be marked as being 'Read' even though I know I haven't ... :-(

Oh well. You get used to everything in time. Like toothache.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
By Kerioak (*****) [gb] Date 30.11.03 09:48 GMT
No, it does not run fast it is just that I generally have two or three things on the go at once so I can be reading/replying to emails, reading CD and checking out one of the Dobe specific forums and I just flick from one to the other as they appear on the screen

That is a two edged sword Christine. It stops people deleting their original post and leaving a load of unattached answers :-) but also means sometimes posts don't make sense because we wrote it wrong but were unable to edit it in time :-( A little longer before it times out would be useful. (Pretty please admin?)

Best wishes, John

I like the new look for Champdogs still don't know what "Add Poll" does yet :D

But Admin could we please have a little more time to edit. Usually mine don't always make sense first time around or I don't puncuate properly and my posts come across as either Rude or Stupid, when they shouldn't be either. I understand the reason for "limiting" the time scale but how about a little longer pretty please :D

I like the PM's.

It looks like "Add Poll" can only be used by the person starting the thread?

The threads have now stopped being on different pages, I can run through a thread as it appears instead of changing pages part way through.

Thanks Admin it was driving me mad
