I have never lost a pet but after reading the posts here I can only imagine the heartache. Today whilst helping my daughter who is 10 with her reading project I read part of her book and list below the words I just think they are lovely simple but caring.
He's deep in sleep and dreaming
The deepest dream of all
Of the longest walk he'll ever take
Beyond the garden wall.
And there he's salmon-leaping
In the tall Elysian grass
though still at times, I wake to think
I've seen his shadow pass
We wish you well and thank you
For your friendship and your games
Our love goes with you (name of dog)
For your memory remains
But (pet name) boy is far and gone
We'll hear his bark no more
Though his collar and his lead still hang
Behind the hallway door.
