I have been reading messages on another board about feeding puppies milk. Why do you give puppies milk as one of their feeds when they have already been weaned? Surely they should be getting all what they need from their meat feeds. My puppy had rice pudding for his supper by his breeder and we continued this for about a week while he was settling in but then changed him to 4 meat meals a day.

Hi Freeway

I tend to agree with you, in a way it is illogical to feed milky meals.

It's also true of humans I suppose, after all we do not naturally drink milk after we have been weaned.

Yet we still have it; perhaps we have just all been told how good four us it is, that we continue to take it and also want to feel that we are giving our pups health and nutrients. The milk Marketing Board has a lot to answer for!!!!!

Best wishes

Milk is far more likely to cause upset tums than anything else, just about. Many dogs have a lactose intolerance, and often it's just not recognised as such. However, mine do like a little live plain yogurt, and this seems to have the opposite effect, even made with cow's milk. Possibly the bacteria convert the lactose to lactic acid which is better tolerated. (Only guessing - I'm not a food scientist)
