Give it a try and let me know what you think about the new board.
I'm trying not to be negative at this stage but so far I think I prefer the format of the old board. Having to go through the various headings is going to be tedious. I may be wrong so will wait and see.

We have an option which shows all new posts:
http://www.champdogs.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/post_shownew.pl
Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Is there a button somewhere to press to get this new postings facility? or do we have to type the address each time?
Hi Rachel.
If you drag the URL for new posts onto your Favorites and rename it New Posts you have your button.
John
Have I got a different version to everyone else, mine shows the new posts automatically every time I log in. Ingrid
No, you're version is the same as everyone else but if you go in on the URL Mark posted on Champdogs and don't logout the new messages will remain new messages. If you logout the new messages are flagged as read. If you use the URL he has listed in the help page this problem is cleared up. So, yer pays yer money and takes yer choice! Or of course, you can use the "New Posts" URL.
John
Is it possible to have a new post 'button'. How long will your link be available or will we have to type it out in full every time? One of the beauties of the old board is the change of colour shows you what you have already looked at on earlier visits. Is there a way to mark where you have been already?
Hi Lesley. See my post above.
John
John, thanks for the answer, the 'new post' address is firmly set into my favourites! Now providing my son does not crash the home network 'again' everything should be ok. I see that you are in Bucks - where abouts? We moved from S Bucks three yrs ago.
Hi Lesley.
I'm South Bucks'ish, High Wycombe to be exact! I've always been in love with those rolling Chiltern Hills. Some lovely dog country!
John, thanks for the answer, we lived in Hedgerley, nr J2 of M40 for 13½ yrs. We left in July 1998 and moved to glorious Devon. On a good day we have the equal to the rolling chilterns and the bonus of lovely beaches! Pleased we made the move, Hedgerley is now a dormitory village for London - its lost most of its 'village life'.
Just had problems logging on and had to check my password - the system is nice and quick. I think most people will only check recent postings though.

So far I am not keen on this new board I find it a lot slower it has taken me ages to get this page for a reply the old board was much quicker and clearer this board really hurts my eyes and I don't know why. It takes a lot longer to go to all the messages.

If you use the Options link you can amend your font type and size. I don't know but this may help your eyes.

Hi Admin!
that Mr Wichitill's a bloomin' genius! even I can use this board!
I'm still having trouble navigating my way around, but it's not nearly as awful as I imagined it would be, and the 'Help' instructions are very comprehensive... although not exactly written for the pc-idiot! can they be simplified? for instance - the paragraph on tags??? had me mystified... things you put on dog-collars aren't they? and as for good old cookies... my dogs love em! I'd like to know more practical things like what is the higher level arrow for? and how do you get back from it to return to your message?
I'm going into a new paragraph to see if that is displayed as a paragraph or not, to say that I've found the new board surprisingly good. I like the layout and the accessibility of it. I hope it sorts out the problems of the old board and does not put too many people off! If I can do it then anyone can - I'll post this on the old board in the hope that all the other regulars are inspired!
(hope u pay Mr Wichitill a big fat salary!!

I like it, especially the fact that the text comes up in nice, big print so I don't have to squint anymore

Hi Mark.
Well it's not as bad as I first thought ! It will take some time to get used to it and I do not think it is as "user friendly" as the old board.
It is a shame that we can't have the login-in process (and one or two other features) but with the old simple board format ?
I liked it all being under one roof...... something for everyone at a quick glance!
Good luck with it anyway. Best wishes Twills

PS: can not find how to change my password? I will never remember this one !

How? , What do you actually have to do?
Talk me through it please!

changing the password is easy, just press options at the top of this page and delete the password stars in the box and put your new one in, Ingrid

Thanx Ingrid
How do you change your password??
Definatly no so user friendly. I prefer the original board! I know I’m OLD but I wonder how anyone new to the board is going to find their way around. I'm posting then trying to find where it's gone!
NOT 'APPY!!!!!

Its quite good! I like the fact that you can seperate the topics...although I think that sometimes the topics will overlap and we'll miss out on good information if we go to the wrong topic-site.
Congrats anyway!
OK Mark, I'll hold my hand up its not so bad as I first thought. But still like the old message board better, sorry.

.
Just tried the show all new posts section, like that idea, similar to the old board, this new board is impressing me more and more.
Also found out that I can edit my messages, thats good too, cos' I often make spelling mistakes. LOL.

OFFLINE IS NOT OUT OF MIND
Hi, well I like the smileys! I'm a bit of an old dog so I'll use it for a bit longer before i say too much, but it does seem faster to move around the board. What would be handy, would be a "top of page" link at the bottom of each thread, I think when there are really busy threads it will be a nightmare scrolling to the top of the page each time.
First thought was why change it but........I like it.
Even though I have made the font bigger, I think it would be easier for people with bad eyesight like me to have a better contrast than blue on blue.

I like it this way . All the new messages are already open , so I don`t have to keep clicking back . Don`t know about the getting lost stuff yet , but it most likely will happen . Still peoples messages kept turning up in the wrong place anyway .

Take care Tetley .

Getting used to it now. Its like having a new toy:-)
So far, I dont like it. Cant we keep the same format and just have the pasword sign in, if we HAVE to have it. I love coming to the computer, logging in and seeing all the new and varied questions, scroll up and down to se which I shall read first, and then diving in. I like the "Welcome-westie lover" though, makes me feel wanted!! PLEEEAAASE dont change the format Mark, how about a vote and see what the majority want?
I'm with you Westie Lover. I think we're going to miss an awful lot of postings like this. The Welcome is nice and personal; it's just the individual catagrees that I don't like.

I really like it. It is much more user friendly than the old board. Plus you do not have to scroll down hundreds of messages to find what you are looking for
Well Done.!!!
i hate saying this but i'm really not keen at all.
Can I be honest? Champdogs has lost all its character, charm and personality!!!
The best bit was scrolling up and down, looking back to see who had answered what.
It seemed more - personal somehow. There was a feeling of almost chatting, now it's just kind of boring. Like a synthetic version of the real thing.
There's lots of boards like this!
Champdogs is unique, loveable and brilliant. Now it's not at all different.
I'm sorry to be negative but it's the way I see it anyway. The old board WAS user-friendly, it took a few seconds to scroll up and down and you could see at a glance what was happening.
Sorry to go on. But I'm going back to the PROPER board now!!!!(Stomp, stomp, stomp!!!!).
Sorry, don't like the new board!.......prefer the *old board* <grin> (If and when you disband this one, please let us know...thanks!)

Well Mark, what can I say !
A week on and I like this board better than the other one !
I take it all back
It IS user friendly, once you get used to navigating around it
Yes, you do have to look for the new threads but the board tells you on the first page which 'topic' has been added to and what you have and haven't looked at.
It is also much easier to read as you don't have to keep using the back button to access the next reply , BRILLIANT !
Congratulations, I like it
Glad you like it twill......it's doing my head in!! the old board was straight forward for those of us that are thick!!!!!
dont get too drunk on sunday , you hear!!
where is your braco article this week? i've forgotten - sorry.

I will have it at Crufts, so if you can't get a copy, come and see the real thing !
