Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Searching / cocker puppy around £350
By hbb65 [gb] Date 17.12.01 19:57 GMT
I live in Hampshire and am looking for a cocker bitch preferably brought up with a family and used to cats, we can afford around £350, and are willing to travel 100 miles or so. We are just looking for a much loved 'addition' to the family we do not intend to breed, so are not interested in anything too expensive. Thanks Heather

I'm afraid you won't get a puppy for £250, you're looking at £400 to £500 for a quality pedigree puppy especially a bitch.

You'd probably be better waiting for a while and getting some more money together then you'd have a better choice of breeders from which to purchase the right quality pup.

Good luck,

fiona

The other thing that you might consider is taking a Cocker rescue bitch, especially if you have no interest in showing or breeding and solely want a pet. While you may not get a young puppy, rescue may have a young female (less than 2 years) that meets your criteria.

Very few young Cocker bitches come onto Rescue although a bitch under the age of two is probably what is most frequently requested by those wanting to adopt a Rescue. Heather, you could try contacting Cynthia White (Rescue Officer for Dorset & The West Country) on 01929 552863 just in case. Otherwise the best thing to do would be as Fiona suggests, to wait a little longer & save up enough for a good quality pup from a reputable breeder - it would be worth the wait! The risk is that if a lower than average price is made the deciding factor then it's more likely that an unwise purchase will be made from a less than reputable breeder.

It costs just the same to responsibly breed a pup for showing/working etc as it does for a pet home - just the attitude of some "puppy raisers" that is different and who sell pups cheaply. The cheaper the pup the more suspicious of where it has come from (and how often the bitch has been bred, what they have been fed etc etc)..

LOL.... if you have gone mad so have I. And here I thought it was the egg nog or old age creeping up on me!!! It said £250 originally unless Jon has to start hiding the egg nog!

I mistakenly put in £250 and posted before I realised, when I checked the site later I saw my glaring mistake!!

£100 per edit seems expensive JH

ROFL!!! If that is what the handbaggers are charging for edits, I'll have to start being more careful when I post my originals! But then it is the Christmas season and maybe this is how they get more money for the Christmas prezzie wish-list! **winking**
