Just had one of my rare brainstorms     Looking on EBAY, people have individual feedback on their own page, which gives a little insight into the person you're e-mailing etc.

As I guess it's impossible to police the people who put their affix and details on Champdogs, I wonder if something similar might be welcomed by people doing a search.    Maybe positive, neutal or negative comments (hopefully not the latter) on subjects such as interest in the enquiry, depth of knowledge of their breed, advised of suitable contact points, etc.

I suppose it might be open to the abuses which afficts sites occasionally, but wonder if the benefits to the enquirer might outweigh this.?????

Just an idea

If it's anything like eBay getting bad feedback removed is a nightmare! Personally i love to see links to websites and then guestbooks if that helps? :-)

I think it is a good idea but open to abuse no doubt , where there is a will there is a way..

It tires me no end when I hear, or get feedback from people about puppies they have bought via breeders lists not just hear but others , thinking that being on them means they are good and reputable.    I have heard of 2 this week same breeder, advertises on every site they can get on.

I personally think that regardless of how long it takes screening should be to the limits before they are allowed on any site.  Firstly affiliated with the breed clubs.

Hmmmm
yes its a good idea but how do you police it ? There are plenty of trolls about at the moment and as Blue mentions about breeders seeming reputable because they are on this site, well there is a breeder on here who I have seen on every site going advertising her dog as stud ! Even from a young age and I have never seen him at any shows ?!
To me , if you have a decent dog you dont need to advertise everywhere as people would be approaching you as the owner if he is such a good example .

"regardless of how long it takes screening should be to the limits before they are allowed on any site.  Firstly affiliated with the breed clubs."

I agree. CD is the only place that I'm listed and I've got many excellent inquiries from it. I've also been contacted by people who are having problems with a dog/pup they got from someone else that they are with, and they don't know where to turn for help. I like to get that sort of e-mail and always do my level best to assist.

But I don't like being listed in the company of Rocky x Sweetie Pie breeders. There aren't many on CD, which is why I do use it, but there are a few. If checking Breed Club affilliation is too difficult, only accpting people with KC affixes might be a thought. I know an affix doesn't prove anything, but like a breed club affiliation it at least shows some seriousness of interest.

Jas,

Affixes are not enough or KC I am afraid..

I am an affix holder, and was for a couple of years  before breeding but I could be anyone. I would have been and am happy to be grilled.

I list my name as a breeder on here so as to help puppy searchers, and I spend a lot of time and I mean a lot of time passing numbers on etc, my thought is if I even give 6 good breeders numbers out they can at least pass on some also. I good chain hopefully helps in the end finding a good puppy.

I know of a breeder in Scotland who holds 3 affixes within her family, has puppies coming out her ears, but is very good at convincing people that KC is only for showing or that showing is only for snobs etc etc.. I recently was told that the person said on initial enquiry " all my puppies are from " this affix and that affix ,which of course they were not.  We have to remember this is a business to these types of people, WHere there is a will there is a way.

I do strongly believe now after a few years of thought on how to help a buyer to the best advantage that the breed club references and conections are the best.

Due to website design and internet, Puppy farmers/back door breeders are doing even better.

Did you contact the Pomeranian breed clubs about this breeder as I suggested in one of your earlier posts?  they may be more help than the Kennel club, and at least if this is not a reputable breeder they will be aware of someone else that is exploiting the breed.

hello also thought your topic was good.
I am one of them people who got stung..by a breeder that advertises on this site..and loads more elsewere!
this breeder we bought from..and we trusted!! is still selling!!on this site..a few things have been changed like name in some places.
but i paid for registration..and 2 years down the line after listning to her excuses i still not had it..taking legal action now!! as she has proved to me..how bad she is..claims to have her "line"..yet swears to me she has only had two litters ever...so i asked her..i hope you know your line well..ie as in the stock..were they came from..and if there were any health issues!! she answerd fast..the first time ever!
and sai i take nothing to do with this!! and will take no come backs on this stock learning..besieds pom dogs dont need it!
i was fumeing...pom dogs..or any other dogs..ned it!! as how can you prove there is nothig wrong with stock and back ground that this little dog came from..no answer//she did not care..it seemed to me!!
any way..we clearley did speek on the registration (which she has deny'd now) even tho i have the proof!! the kennel club said the pup id registerd..and has the name you chose on it!?? so that alone proves that we did and have paid for it..but now she asking another 300 pounds for it!!
im going mad here!! also she very clever and try to turn around..saying kc club have the proof and i do..about this document been sent to me via the kc club(registration)..only now its turned to the pedigree..which i may add..she has sent 3 in the last 2 weeks? 2 years down the line? and every one is difrent..she also asked for 20 pounds for pedigree...i am dumb struck with her!! I payd for pedigree..she says she did!! no mater.i do not trust her now!! and pity anyone who buys from her! she then said..if you are not happy with your pup..i will give you refund and have him back!!! i was like..hold on here!! why this now?? he has a heart and a soul..and is a little life on this earth..How  dare you ask that of me!! what kind of breeder are you??
well this is only a little part of waht has gone on..now..she saying i will have you for harasment so dont message me again..less you want refund for the dog........he is 2 years old for got sake!!
what a night mare!

Just a point about stud dogs.  I think that the public doesnt actually know to go where to look for one.  I advertise my boy but before anyone uses him I check that they have full hearing and ask to see the bitch if possible beforehand.  I have turned down a few people because I wasnt happy.  As I am a member of a breed club which takes breeding responsibly if I was to breed with a unsuitable bitch ie under 2 over 8 bred on consecutive litters or has a blue eye patch or hearing problem I would get a warning from the club quite rightly.  If people dont show then how will they get to know the dog?

As always I think it is the small minority that spoils it for the rest of us.

Would be nice to have recomendations from people who are happy but I suppose like on ebay you will be held to ransom by a small minority if you dont comply with them.

Good idea but there are important differences here than to eBay - eBay's is 2 way feedback which has the effect of making people think twice about malicious feedback and there is also only the opportunity to comment on people you actually have a formal contract with through a winning bid/sale - so you couldn't have people coming in with an axe to grind and commenting on someone they have had no dealings with.  The situation on Champdogs is rather different I think but some way of allowing comments, as long as they couldn't be anonymous (would have to register and provide valid email address) and breeders had the right to reply, might be workable.

I know from experience that it is possible to advise Admin about breeders you are concerned about and they will look into it and will remove their membership if found to be wanting.  I feel that is good enough without having these things aired in public, even if the breeder has the right to reply it seems in the nature of people to believe anything bad said and suspect the no smoke without fire thing :-)

Well seeing as i am the breeder in question i thought i should join in. Those of you who would like to know more on this topic and see my referance from the south wales pom club please feel free to e-mail me.Zoeslocombe@hotmail.com
Maria was sold a puppy as a pet at a pet price. She was sent a copy of the prdigree from the kennel club. She was never allowed to have the registration papers as i have been advised not to hand them out by some of the top breeders in poms with all the puppies i sell. Maria has been harrassing me with hundreds on e-mails and a number of threats which included a vist from her brother in law and his pit bulls. She also told me she had the puppy tested for everthing and somthing came up in the bloods. I don't know what as i was under instruction not to answer any of her e-mails. I had to choose to refuse on my phone to stop the calls of abuse. Any way the day after telling me there was somthing wrong with the dog she advertises him as a stud! You can all make of it what you will. IF any of you would like to know more feel free to mail me.
Regards
Zoe
Oh and i did offer a refund for the dog as this has become an obsession and the dog no longer seams important to her as she has told me to come and get him a number of times and also told the police officer.
