Is turkey poisonous to dogs I didnt think it was but the OH's mum claims it is because someone told her .. I know that turkey skin can cause problems ( or so i have read) but what about the meat itself. Im sure my other dogs used to eat it and Leo has turkey and rice puppy food.

What else is poisonous to dogs, i know chocolate can be because of the theobromine... what else has theobromine in?

I have never heard of turkey being poisonous to dogs - have fed it to mine and AMP sell bags of frozen turkey necks so I think someone is having you on

My dogs eat raw turkey, skin and all, it causes no problems.  Probably yet another wives tale...........................

Turkey is often recommended for calming dogs down..................... :D

Apparently, the latest thinking is that Turkey skin can cause acute pancreatis in dogs.  There are quite a few web-sites that mention this if you do a search on it.

The only recognised dietary cause of pancreatitis is feeding high fat foods to dogs; it is NOT turkey skin per se that "causes" it!  Any more than feeding cheese per se  for example causes it!

Indeed, and turkey skin (poultry skin generally) is very high in fat so I would think that large amounts can be problematic.

Great Brit Girl, I think you need to invest...in a set of ear plugs for when your mother-in-law comes round!   No offence to your OH (I hope he doesn't read Champdogs with you!) but she keeps telling you things that you find out to be untrue on here, not her fault admittedly, and I'm sure she has Leo's best interests at heart but she certainly seems to love an old wives tale!
